This is sorta a newbie question. Oh well. It's supposed to be a soul. He holds the soul and is like "Yeah, I'm badass."

Yeah man, it's a freakin' soul. just look at the background in the chamber of souls stage. Look similiar? And in his Fatality, he takes there soul, which also bears a resemblance to the ball. Get it now?

I literally winced when I read that.

To further dive into this, I would say it's "A conglomeration of all the souls he's taken over the years and channeling his soul power into this hand, much like Magneto's hand glows from his Magnetic Powers...or something."
