Shinnok was an Elder God. I don't think the Elder Gods are gods of anything specific. Just general all powerful gods.

Elder Gods just watch the realms supposedly even though they cant do that right lol.

Although technically, he can and should be considered the god of the netherrealm since he was imprisoned there and eventually ended up being its last ruler as far as we know.

I cannot remember which game it was stated in, but Shinnok is the Elder God of Shadows. Makes a little since since Noob, and his clan are mostly all shadows. That's what I recall reading in one of the MK games. Either in an instruction manual, or on a bio.
