In Mythologies Shinnok had these bright red fire balls and a force filed and he could trnasform into this massive demon.
In MK4 they took that all away and turned him into a poor man's Shang Tsung.

I have thinking about that for a long time and I've finally figured it out. Shinnok has the power of shadow. It's been right there for so long and knowone I know knew. Here are three facts to back up my theory.

1) His faction is called the Brothers of the SHADOW.

2) His #1 warrior was a shadow, litterally (Noob Saibot).

the biggest reason is #3

3) He could mimic anyones moves. Tsung had to take his opponent's soul before he could do it, Shinnok didn't.

Wasn't he an elder god? That means he just has power, not power of a specific kind. Raiden and Fujin were lesser gods and they had specific powers.

Yeah, I think he was, but he was a fallen elder god, so he probably lost most of his power when he was sent to hell. Besides, he probably got his new powers while in hell, or some bullshit. All I know is that he was a sorry imitation of shang tsung, and a real waste. sad

Yea. Shinnok was stripped of all his Elder God abilities before he was banished to the Netherealm.
