And don't know if these questions have already been answered, but why can't I can't use punch or kick starters and Stryker's riot gun?

Stryker doesn't have his gun in MK3. He gets his gun in Trilogy, i'm pretty sure ( That and or Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3). Don't know about the punch and kicking thing.

One thing that made me mad, was that we couldn't save Smoke when we got him.

And how exactly do you get Smoke?

u put the ultimate kombat code in after you lose, and don't continue. you'll be asked to put the code in. you can't save it though, but in this version of mk3, which i have the actual board pcb and a few others, i have the ultimate chip upgrades too, you cant save it . if you turn the machine off, it goes back to the code. no save. when you upgrade the chips though, it saves the umk3 codes, ermac sub and mileena. so no it won't save smoke. only reason you could save him on your snes or sega was it was ported. not emulated. big difference, with added menus and adjustability. and the jump punch thing is because that was only featured in umk3 and trilogy. toned down in mk4, not as cheap.

let me also note that even in super nes mk3, sega mk3, psx mk3, saturn umk3, none, would let you save the unlocked charecter. you always had to put the code in again. go find em, buy em, and you'll see. i have all of them since i've been a collector of mk since 1992. i have real arcade boards and dedicated machines, all home versions for each system, figures, movies, etc. you cannot save in any home version of mk3. plain and simple.
