I hear everywhere that Sub-Zero and his younger brother are the sons of a Lin Kuei ninja and an American woman. The mom wanted a normal life for the 3 kids (including their sister), but the dad wanted the boys to become members of the Lin Kuei. So, the mom ran from him with the kids.
Eventually, the father found them and took the boys away to become members of the Lin Kuei.
WHERE DOES IT SAY THAT!? In all the official bios, canon plots, etc. nowhere does it say that information. Where do people get it?

don't quote me on this, but im pretty sure it was in the Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero instruction manual. i don't have my manual anymore so i can't confirm it.

Then why do people treat it like canon?

Actually it is canon. It came from the long closed Mortal Kombat Mythologies official site that midway made. It is not fan fiction. It is actually a part of the storyline. Tobais wrote it for the site.
I suggest you check your information before you go around calling people morons.

It is a piece of lost Canon, from the Mortal Kombat Mythologies official website, that was closed by Midway years ago. Since then, this storyline has become, itself, a mythology. It is, however, part of the official MK story.

i did my research. i dont recall the mkm site, nore have i found any records of its existence. check any web archive site
bottom line, if it wasnt in the game, it never happened..its not part of the official story.

Hmm...so, I guess we should figure out where exactly this story came from and put it down for good. Only then will it be removed from Mortal Kombat lore.

as long as people continue to be misinformed about it, it will never go away...ive explained time and time again that there arent 6 sub-zeros..but theres always gonna be a few..ummm.."people" that wont beleive you no how much proof you give them.
sad really.
sad really.
"Sub-Zero learned of his ability as a young adult. It was passed on to him by his father, a fourth generation Lin Kuei warrior himself. Among his first missions for the Lin Kuei, is one that leads him to the Shaolin Temples to steal the sacred Map of Elements."-from the link you sent me.
If classic Sub-Zero is the 5th Sub-Zero, than his brother is the 6th Sub-Zero. Therefore, there are 6 sub-zeros. The part that is false is that he was born in America. That he had a mother though is obvious. A sister wouldn't be that unlikely. But the story about them never being heard from again is a fan fiction.

Its also says this on Gamespot's History of Mortal Kombat... http://www.gamespot.com/gamespot/features/video/hist_mortalk/p3.html
The Lin Kuei Clan
For centuries, in the northeastern parts of China there existed a secret clan of assassins and thieves known as the Lin Kuei. Its warriors were humans with special skills and abilities, chosen at birth to be raised apart from the workings of day-to-day civilization. These warriors were stripped of their former lives, and only the clan knew of their existence. Their abilities were passed on from generation to generation and honed through life experiences.
A fourth-generation Lin Kuei warrior by the name of Sub-Zero made himself a life in America as a cover for his true identity and purpose as an assassin. He had a wife, two sons, and a daughter. His wife wanted a normal life for her sons, so she tried in vain to hide her sons from their father. Eventually, the two sons were found, and their father returned with them to China. Their mother and sister were never seen or heard from again. The older son soon inherited the name of Sub-Zero.

omfg.
where does it say there are 6 sub-zeros? it says the ability was passed down, not the name...the "4th generation" talk doesnt mean he was the 4th sub-zero, it means he was the 4th person in his bloodlne to be in the clan.
the orginal sub-zero (yes, hes the orginal meaning he was the first) learned the ability from his father..as did his younger bother..if their father was 4th gen..that would make them both 5th generation warriors. the only reason the the younger brother retained the name sub-zero, was because his brother (the ORGINAL) failed to return from the shaolin tournament..he wanted to honor his brother's death...read the mk2 book.
its says the ability, not name..both "sub-zero's" are 5th generation..why cant you people get that through your skulls?

that my friend dont mean shit..just cause some idiot on gamespot calles it "official" doesnt make it official. all they did was take the actual mkm story and added to it(as they did with the entire mk history)...ill be more than happy to scan the fuckin booklet and show you.
if you can show me in any mk book and game where it states there are six sub-zeros, and the rest of the crap that gamespot wrote, ill personally kiss your ass...to bad that wont happen, cause that info doesnt "officially" exist.
anyone can write a story..anyone can add to the mk story and put it on the net..that doesnt make it official.

There is a book that was written by one of the people that helped make the first MK game. It was simply entitled Mortal Kombat. It starts with Kung Lao's journey to Mount Ifukube, and tells of the story all the way up to the start of the MK tournament involving Liu Kang, and the other six warriors from MK1. In that book it tells us Scorpion's son's name, and Scorpion's name as well. His son was named Tsui Park, and he was Yong Park. It also states Sub-Zero's last name which was Hasashi, and he was the first of two sons of the "original" Sub-Zero. The original Sub-Zero apparentlly was their father, and was the character from MK Conquest. If you think about it, it makes sense too. Sub-Zero from MK1 wasn't born yet during the Conquest. The novel was written by Jeff Rovin I believe. I'll have to dig it out of my book collection to find out. But that's were I got all this info.

Well, ladies and gents, it appears now that this misconception about Sub-Zero's past is not canon at all, since we know books and movies and other media have no place in the actual game's storyline.
Also, SCORPION's real name is Hanzo Hasashi.

The Sub-Zero's father and American woman with three kids thing was on the official MK:Myhtologies website which is gone now. The American mother explained why Sub-Zero and his brother looked American even though they're from China and the missing sister is where the theory that Frost is Sub-Zero's sister came from.
It also added some info and Scorpion's past like his father was a Shirai Ryu ninja and he didn't want Hanzo to be a ninja. But he joined anyway because he wanted to provide a confortable life for his wife and child. And that he was a master of Shuriken throwing weapons, I think.
None of this was in the booklet.
However the site was shut down a long time ago, so there is the chance that they're ignoring that. I don't see what the big deal is though, it doesn't really take mess up what we already know about Sub-Zero.
On a side note, I don't like referring to Sub-Zero or his brother as 5th or 6th either. Mainly because it's meaningless trivia and only confuses people who didn't play Mythologies.

Regardless of generation, that would still make the current Sub-Zero the 6th to harness these abilities, and possibly the 6th to take on the name of sub-zero.

Thank god for that, people. Rain's first story sucked a load of ass.
"I used to be a Lin Kuei ninja, but I quit. When the Outworld invasion came, I chose to work for Shao Kahn rather than get killed and have my soul sucked out. Still, my conscience is bugging me as I watch the Earth get totalled..."
Thank God they changed it to this:
"In the great war between Outworld and Edenia, I was a child. In the ensuing war, I got sucked in and lost and wasn't seen again for thousands of years. Now, I have reappeared as a soldier for Shao Kahn. I would rather do that then die and have my soul sucked out."
