The scar is a mark of death for leaving the Lin Kuei clan. However MK:SM implies that Kung Lao is resposible for this or actually his hat is wink
As for the Kano's eye, it was implanted by the same surgeon that operated Hsu Hao during the experimentation with cybernetic implants to enhance physical performance and endurance, conducted by a covert division of the Chinese military.

Weird. I thought the eye was implanted from a scar given to him by sonya or someone

How the hell would an eye enhance physical performance?

Whatever. Thank you for the info.

Misunderstanding. Hsu Hao was operated during the mentioned experiments. Kano's eye was implanted later, but by the same surgeon. I just wanted you to know who the surgeon was. BTW, this info comes from MK:DA.

One thing doesn't exclude the other. He could have still got his eye implanted by the aforementioned surgeon.

BTW, any corrections are welcome smile

how would an eye enhance someone, well it did shot a lazer, it might have infared/night vision and its scary thats how!

wait, if the scar was from kung lao's hat, wouldn't it be the orginal sub's eye then, not the one we know, the one we know is the mark of death right? or he just got it in some random battle we don't know of yet

They probably just put the scar on his face for something to look at, instead of having just a normal face.

Nope, it would be the "new" Sub-Zero. MKSM follows the story of MK2. In MK2 the original Sub-Zero was already dead and his younger brother took his place. So it would be possible.

Sub-Zero's scar is NOT a "mark of death" for leaving the Lin Kuei clan. (Sub-Zero was "marked for death", an expression meaning the Lin Kuei was going to kill him, but it has nothing to do with a physical mark.)

In MKSM, it was revealed that Kung Lao is the one who gave Sub-Zero his scar.

That's if you consider MK:SM canon.

Personally, I always figured Sub-Zero got the scar while he was escaping the Lin Kuei with Smoke. Not a literal "mark of death," but rather as he and Smoke were trying to escape someone managed to slash his face.

Smoke didn't make it out, Sub-Zero was left with his scar.

I know what "marked for death" expression means ]{ smile And what I meant before is basically what XD said. I didn't mean the scar as a magically appeared mark on Sub-Zero's face, but a result of escaping the clan, which wasn't easy, hence the scar. He was marked for death by that scar, but metaphorically speaking. I should've used quotation marks.

As for the MK:SM explanation it simply depends on if you consider it canon or not. But that was talked about many times, so I'll just leave that.

Ditto, but I for once prefer the MKSM explanation. It simply has more merit and strength than the obvious and predictable "scarred by my enemy".
