I remember way back in the early 90's when an arcade game was coming to the home platforms it was a big big deal. I am just curious as to which version of MK had the best translation when it hit home. Your personal opinions please.

What system was it on? What made it the best for you?

If I were to pick It would be a toss up between MK II for the SNES and MK3 for the playstation 1. The hype around MK II at the time was nuts and the big news was that the SNES version was gonna have all the blood and guts.

MK 3 for the playstation was special because it was just like the arcade, with minor flaws, shangs morping, missing animations. The game was great and I cannot tell you how many hours I played it.

All opinions welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks,

MK4 for N64. It is the best translation because... I don't know why, it just is.

When something better than UMK3 comes out, I'll let you all know, because it still hasn't happened yet.

MK3 for PC was pretty damn close. The only thing that bothered me was the way the blood looked at first, but then I realized I didn't care. Also the frame rate in general seems to be choppy and I could never figure out if it was the game, or video cards. Otherwise the game is intact, all the sounds are there, musics, no loading time, and above all, the gameplay is accurate.

I'm gonna bring this up again, but I still think the closest was the Amiga version of MK1. Graphics are almost identical and the sound on the Amiga was awesome, so I think that woulda been really close too. However I'm going on memory (except for the graphics, u can google Amiga MK1 screenshots) so I can't be sure at all...plus I haven't played any of the PC versions of the MK games, so for me the Amiga version of MK1 was closest to the arcade - MK2 on the other hand, was horrible on the amigasad
The best Arcade to Home translation for MK1-UMK3 ist of course MAME.
You dont count it? Why?
You can play it at Home lol.

hypothetically speaking, if we bought an arcade machine and kept it in our closets next to Jimmy Hoffa, would that count?

I think the best Arcade-to-home translation is MK 4 PC. It had all of the ending videos, it had close to arcade graphics, and the music was identical as well. I wish mine still worked...

As Mk2KungBroken said, MK3 pc version was by far the best port ever...only thing that i could pick out was that the life bars weren't the same as the arcade. Buts thats not important, as the rest of the game was perfect!!

And what do you mean "choppy", MK3 was fine i think, MKT though seemed to have half as many frames as MK3!!

MK3 PC was great. One thing though....was it just me or would you often not start out in the center of the level? Like on the Soul Chamber both characters would start off a little to the right when a round began. It did it on some other stages too. It was really bizarre.

The game just runs choppy on all Comps I've played it on, as in, not smooth but I'm sure the animation is there. There is also no frame hacking in MKT fpr PC and PSX as far as I have seen.

wow...this is hard.

It really depends on era, to me...eg MK1 and MK2 were pretty sucky on PC, actully MK2 was good but the sound was still low quality... But by the time MKT / MK4 was out the sound and CD quality music couldn't be beaten.

MKII Snes is probably the best for era...I had so much fun playing that.
I am not one of those Nintendo fanboys either, MK1 on SNES sucked balls...MK1 on Sega Genesis / Megadrive kicked it's ass...people say the SNES version looked better well that might be true, but the gameplay was totaly shit...the control system and delays were so retarded. Were as the Sega version had responsive and equal movement, decent graphics great sound and of course blood / fatalities.
