Ummm....maybe they got inspiration from the "living forest" in the Evil Dead movie,if you think of this it makes sense,in past MK such as MK1 they got inspired by some movies too,The story of the Tournament in MK1 is like the one in Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon" movie,bah,Liu Kang is MK's Bruce Lee,Raiden is clearly inspired in the flying lightning-manipulator of "Big Trouble in Little China",Shang Tsung maybe is inspired too in one of this movie's characters,more precisely Lo pan,if you look at Shang's appearence in MK1 you'll see that he's very reminiscent of "big trouble's" Lo Pan,and he's a Sorcerer too.I think there're more similarities,but right now it's all i can remember.

If they completeley did the same thing then its a rip off. This is inspiration where you take the basic idea and twist it. If this counted as a rip off than every single fight movie in the world would be a rip off because they all have fights. But are they rip-offs? Nope.

It was still a great idea....Does it really matter where they got it from? Honestly...there are very few "original" ideas in video games today (or in the 90s in this case---designers often admit to being 'inspired' by something and then working it into their own creation)..

btw...the faces in the forest on the trees belonged to Ed Boon....i always found that to be really weird.....
