I posted a thread on this several months back. Use the forum search if you don't belive me. Heres what I put:

I was thinking about the MK Dragon logo and had a theory.

What if in the end, once MK is finished will the Black Dragon Clan be the dominant fighters? It seems weird that the MK logo is a black dragon and that there is a clan in the series known as the Black Dragon. The logo could symbolise the Black Dragon!

This raises other questions such as:

Does the Black Dragon use the MK logo as their symbol?

Or what if Kano or even Jarek became the overall victors of MK and killed everyone else??

Has Boon had the end of the MK series known since the very beginning? (Kind of like George Lucas wityh the Star Wars saga.)

The dragon king looks nothing like the MK dragon logo, though I guess it could be his uh symbol thing.
And to that one other guy, no the Black Dragon doesn't use the dragon logo as their logo.

VERY good point. :)

Anyway, this are very GOOD observations. I was also wondering about the Mk Dragon Logo, maybe it will be the Dragon Kings symbol, or just like someone said (a VERY GOOD observation) maybe it could be related to the Black Dragon, I mean, the BD has been around since mk1!! in every-single-game.

I think you guys are focusing on this a tad too much. Mortal Kombat started out as a fast project. There was never supposed to be a sequel, there was only sequels cause the over all popularity. The dragon symbol was used do to the Asian theme of the game and John Tobias’s obsession with Asian Mythology. In fact I don’t even think the Dragon King was mentioned until MK:DA, I could be wrong, but I haven’t heard jack about him prior to it’s release. And I doubt they even had a clue that someday they were going to be making such a good Mythology around this Dragon King character let alone Shao Kahn (not implying that he has anything to do with the dragon king).

Midway really didn’t get serious with MK until the production of MKII. I mean come on, this game was started by two guys sitting on a couch playing Street Fighter and one knocked the other dizzy and said (not a direct quote, but this is basically what Ed Boon said in an interview about MK:DA in Game Informer) “We should do a fighting game, only when you knock the opponent dizzy you can rip their head off or something.” Little did they know they would go on to make one of the greatest fighting games of all time blah blah blah insert something that sounds fanboyish here.

I’m not flaming you, in fact I’m proud of your theory it’s one of the best if seen on this board subsequent to the release of MK:DA. And another correction to tgrant

I’m not sure you were implying that Ed Boon is in control of the storyline by that comment or if he simply jut knew, but the Mortal Kombat storyline was almost written entirely by John Tobias, accept for MK:DA which John Vogel (I think I spelt his name wrong) took over in Tobias’s absence. Sorry, I’m an anal retentive b@$tard.

The MK team didn't even plan out Shao Kahn in MK1, let alone the Dragon King.
