The Most Influential Mortal Kombat

Now we've all had our personal Mortal Kombat favorites that we've discussed thousands of times, but I wish to discuss what classic Mortal Kombat game influenced the world of Mortal Kombat the most, the game that helped create the Mortal Kombat dynasty today. Was it MK 1 with its stunning gore and realistic fighting, MK 2 with its outstanding characters and ever-increasing fatalities, MK 3 with an advance in sharper graphics and revolutionary combos, or MK 4 with its jump to the world of the third dimension? What do you think?

Well MK1 for starting the revelution for video games. It was all Mario and Sonic before, then blood and fatalities were introduced and changed everything.
MK3 for introducing the combo system. It changed the fighting dynamics / object of the game and expanded it into fun it could never have reached from MK1-2.
MK4 for starting the 3D change. Not much else...
MKDA for changing the fighting dynamics again. Incorporating the fighting style changes mid fight was very important in keeping the franchise fresh.
-Ironicaly, even though it was probably the best ever MK, I don't rate MK2 as being influential. It just took MK1 and doubled what was there already, probably like MKD will do. That is what I believe was their goal, when creating Deception.
I would say MK3 was the most influential of all, for adding the combo system...

MK1 because it was so immensely popular, and it made people want an MK2. MK2 in owns right was equally, if not more popular and played. MK3 was nothing, UMK3 was also nothing, however, the gameplay of these two far and beyond destroys MK1 and MK2, many times over.

If it wasn't for the immense popularity of the first game, and the controversy surrounding it, there wouldn't even have been a 2nd.
If MK didn't have the blood, and over the top elements, nobody would've given it a second look, it would be just another moderately entertaining fighter.
Mortal Kombat was the poster child of the whole "Anti-video game violence" movement.

This is an excellent question. Every MK game had something influenced with the saga. However, if I had to pick one, it would definitly be the very first MK. Without the original Mortal Kombat, the game of Mortal Kombat wouldn't exist today. So I am going with MK1.

I completely agree. The combo system is great in MK3/UMK3.

I'll say MK1, because it made people view video games differently, especially parents. And it helped force the game industry to create a ratings system (which we still use today).
