Just wondering, in MK2, in the pit,
you see two people standing in the background,
one of them is on fire or something.

Is it ever explained who these people are?

Liu Kang and "Torch" lol, take your pick, Blaze later came into the MK scene in MKDA, to give life to the lifeless flaming asshole fighting the tacky Liu Kang in the BG of the Pit II.

How come you're sure it's liu kang?

Also, why is he fighting blaze?
Isn't blaze a god like raiden, or something?

Wasn't the green guy fighting Blaze one of the Dragon King's henchmen? I think that's what Blaze's MKDA profile says.

To my understanding, it's Hornbuckle and Torch/Blaze. I don't know where the name "Hornbuckle" came from, but I think the flaming guy was named "Torch" by the fans; however, I've heard that the MK team announced that one of MKDA's special characters was part of a MK2 background, in which case he would officially be Blaze.

There is a person in the credits with the last name "Hornbuckle" and it's Liu Kang's sprite with green trim that is actually what is seen.

If that is true than it clears the whole matter up...

I don't know Blaze's profile though,

He isn't good or bad really, he was on some kind of quest when he was ambushed by followers of the Dragon King and enslaved, and forced to guard the Dragon Egg.
