I am a happy well adjusted emotinally disturbed person, and for some reason all the raiden sprites keep staring at me I mean it tell them to stop, they are scaring me hides

my friend pred gave me this one, and the avvy that goes with it, but I love the ones flameshang and darkryder gave me too, so expect a cycle of these three folks

Why is Raiden (or Rayden) such a popular character? I mean personally I am scared of him, I mean his mk one ending has him destroying the earth for fun and now he is this dictator like figure that kills you if you royally screw up. Not to meantion he seems like the type that does not take anyone that tries to get in his way lightly, and even at his nicest he seems to have some of the most painful looking fatalities I have seen. I just want to know his appeal.

You pretty much just named his appeal.

Because despite all that, he's pretty much a good guy. He's just a good guy that doesn't take shit. Similar to Optimus Prime.

you're kidding? you mean the fact that his victims are screaming as he kills them and his almost psycotic need to protect the earth by any means needed is his appeal? No wonder I hide when I see him yikes...

Well I love Mileena. Because of her great big......eyes...

One my favourite things about Mileena is her scary teeth. She has a very dark, sinister look, its very cool......quite sexy...

As for Raiden (Rayden was how it was spelled on the PAL SNES version) I can see why people like him although to be honest hes only been a 'take no shit bitch' for two games. MK1, where he was brilliant and MKD, where he was supposed to be dead (?!?)

well mileena I understand, she is a semi tragic charactor, the stuck in the shadow of the person who she was cloned from, kinda like how a younger sibling feels with and older sibling sometimes but raiden, well what is the appeal?

Actually, the OFFICIAL spelling of the name is Raiden. With an i, not a y. Even in the mythology from which his name is taken it is spelled with an i.

The only reason they started calling him Rayden was because Midway would've gotten sued by Sega since they already had a character named Raiden.

However, the MK team have gone back to spelling it with an i. RAIDEN.

I hate it like raIden, I like his name spelled raYden the best, but anyway:

RaYden has never really been the “psychoâ€? character you now see. He has been protecting earth with nobility, loyalty and patience since Mk1….till MKD.

Rayden disserves the popularity he gets, he is amazing, but he really needed a twist…and MKD was the best thing that could happen to him.

The new personality, the “vindictiveâ€? aura he now has is intimidating, its fantastic. Rayden is in for some new changes, twisted wicked things are bound to happen, and I love him like this…crazy, mental, and dangerous.

there can be no "Ray-" in japanese names at the end. His original name and the name of the deity is raiden or either Raijin, but thats another mani-festation.

And as far as pronouncement, Raijin would be pronounced Rye jen with a soft J. Raiden should be pronounced similarly. But, in MK1 everything had a kung fu movie feel and most translated things mispronounce names.

The cartoon Naruto comes to mind, mainly because there are two giant brothers in it named Raijin and Fuujin (named after the gods of thunder and wind). Can't wait to see how they're pronounced in the american version if I ever catch it. Hell, they even change the pronunciation of Kakashi for the English version.
