Yeah its the original wavenet in midway studio.
So we can now officialy request this game in MAT4 or a MK Collection Disc(s)
We are So close to it!Man i'll die if they dont put this game in the MAT4 DISC.I mean they should put the latest version of the game, right?I think that this is the latest version.Like i know that there are many infinities fixed and limited moves that prevent HUGE dmg,but still the gameplay is kooler than the original arcade UMK3.So what`cha say ?Would you like this game in MAT 4 or MK COLLECTION CD(S) ? I Do.

That is an awesome idea. Wavenet version should be accessible. We should lobby, protest, or do whatever it takes to convince them to release it in some form. If they think it will get them profits, then Midway would probably do it. I think they are retarted for not capitalizing on the popularity umk3 still has. The greedy bastards could be even richer if they would just release umk3 to ps2 or to PC with internet play. What about the next fight night? They should stop making new shitty mk games. monks, mkd and mkda are trash. Is there any way that the topic of umk3 can be brought up the next time mko staff talks to the mk team? Don't they realize it is still the most popular mk game?confusedfurious

I don't think the MK team would care. MKD was such a tremendous success for them even with its terribly broken gameplay. People that love UMK3 are in a vast minority.

I personally would love to see it. Ideally I would like PC version of UMK3 Wavenet with netplay. From what I heard, as was mentioned, there was more balancing on a few things and a playable noob.

The problem with a console release is they didn't do so great a job on MK3 in MAT and that is a lot easier then UMK3 Wavenet would be. Plain old arcade UMK3 would be the same as MK3 since they ran on the same hardware but UMK3 Wavenet was actually two computers, the arcade board and a small 386 with embedded OS which handled the networking. From what I've heard the wavenet machines only ran in wavenet "mode" when they were connected to the network, which makes me think the game itself is programmed to interact with the 386 system. If that's the case they'd either have to rewrite code in the actual game (which I doubt they would do since it looks like they are just trying to emulate it quick and dirty) or emulate the arcade machine and the 386.

I'd like to play it but i've pretty much accepted we're never goin to see it. I wouldn't be surprised if ed Boon doesn't even remember it.

Why hasn't Wavenet UMK3 been emulated so it can be played over mame? I'm guessing it must be emulated in some way, cus wavenet Noob is featured in a few DT vids...

Wavenet would be a strange emulation project, but, we just used codes for Noob in our vids.

I think the main reason its not around for MAME is nobody has the rom. They only made a handful of the machines and they were all carefully controlled. None got away to be opened and ripped by rom gatherers.

I see, that's unfortunate. It seems kind of a waste of time that they even bothered with the Wavenet version, I mean if they only released very few machines, why go to all that trouble? Were they planning to release it nationwide, or perhaps Midway used it as a way of testing the wavenet technology, maybe for use in future games?

Also, do you guys know what was specificaly fixed from rev 1.2 for the wavenet version? Was Kung Lao's corner inf still theregrin

---

Finally, Anyanka why don't you have a wavenet umk3 machine? tongue

Wavenet was in development for a while. It was originally MK3 wavenet but I think once they had the addon computer setup to interact with the arcade they adapted the game code so it would be UMK3 that used it.

Essentially, a team was given the task of getting MK3 online.

They looked at the hardware and found the game was already completely maxing it out so they started developing a standalone networking box to handle the processing of all wavenet transmissions. I imagine everything just ran so late that they missed the window of real opportunity to profit on it and decided to let it die.

One good thing came out of Wavenet, lots of players in Chicago, playing hardcore, every day, developing strategies that would make an otherwise unpopular game, into a serious, playable, competitive monster that still has a following 10 years later.
