Hello everyone, UMK3, since it came out when I was little, has always been my favorite MK. I purchased MKA and was delighted to finally get an arcade perfect port of this game, after all the crappy 16-bit ports that were released.

Anyway, onto my questions, I hope someone can answer these. (These questions are for the arcade version ONLY).

1.) In a one player game, when you choose Robo-Smoke and hold Away+HP+HK+BL+RN, you turn into Human Smoke. I did this years ago all the time in the arcade.

I noticed with the MKA version, it changes the background to the blue portal and his face pic on the one player tower is a question mark. I don't remember it being like this. I could have sworn in the arcade his face pic was just robo-smoke and using Human Smoke didn't change the stage to the portal. Am I wrong?

2.) I know Rain isn't in the game, and that Noob Saibot is but isn't playable, but now that it is on PS2, is there a way to use Game Shark to make Rain or Noob playable?

3.) Please tell me in the MKA version the UKK system isn't the only way to unlock the three hidden fighters in UMK3 and if it is, please tell me it saves to the memory card or there is an alternate way. I don't have any friends near me to play with and the UKK's took two people and entering them every time would frustrate me.

1. Background is the blue portal and character portrait is the ? in the arcade as well.

2. There was a relatively easy cheat to make Noob playable in UMK3 for the arcade. It seems plausible that it would still be there for the arcade.

3. I think you have to unlock that way and I don't think you can save the unlocked characters.

I didn't get the premium edition because MK2KB got it before me, tried out UMK3, and informed me that it wasn't worth the money :-/ Very unfortunate.

Really? I think it's perfect. It doesn't have the issues I had with the Arcade Treasures games. I think you should try it.

It's not perfect. If there was no slowdown whatsoever I'd say it's worth it, but that alone makes it not. On top of that is the music glitches.

Are you sure we're playing the same game? I've noticed no slowdown at all. As for music glitches, it only does that once and a while for a half second between matches, and it would be silly to denounce the game for something so incredibly minor.

Given the fact that all the UMK3 ports that have been released on consoles so far were all garbage (not counting the Saturn version, I never played that one, but I heard it had many issues) I think the PS2 version is the best of any released on any console yet.

This is the best home version of UMK3 available. For me that's still not worth the money. No netplay, no saving unlocked characters, no changing button layouts, slowdown issues, music issues, and problems with flickery animations (a la transforming into H.Smoke). That just doesn't add up to a $10 value for me.

And also, UMK3 for Saturn is crap like the rest of them. Better graphics but intetionally broken gameplay.

UMK 3 on the premium edition is alright but the slowdown kills it. I was and still am weary of Digital Eclipse. They are the same company bringing this game to Xbox live arcade soon and as much as I hate to think it, I think this port is what we are gonna get on live.

I don't understand why its so tough to not get a game of this age right on a high tech machine, like the PS2.

Its tough because they didn't remake the game for the system. They emulated it, probably with some hacks put in to make it work better, but they didn't rebuild the game itself on this system.

It'd be a lot of work to do it that way and they probably don't think its worth it. It's also entirely possible that the people that are doing the porting have absolutely no experience with the game and wouldn't know if it was playing correct anyway. Or they might just not care.

If PS2 can do the Guilty Gear games, it can do UMK3. Its just a matter of the developers putting in the time and resources to do it right.

reskinning and adjusting the speed of MKT would be their best option.

If there are secret character codes for UMK3 on Gameshark or Action Replay, there better damn well be one to play as Reptile on MKI for Deception's extra disc!

But as far as I know, no codes have surfaced yet for this version of UMK3.
