Ive been playing UMK3 on my SNES this evening and its come to my attention that it posesses probably the cheapest AI ive EVER come across in a game.
For instance Smoke can perform about 15 spear throws in a row, while Scorpion has no problem pulling off a spear followed by a teleport punch instantly into a 7 hit combo, no human could have that reaction time!!
I think at least it should be equal to your skills not just making a CPU calculate how quickly it can fire off ten million uppercuts and combos in 99 seconds.

The AI on the MK games blatantly cheat in MKII, MK3, UMK3, MKT, and MK4 all the fucking time, and you can blame Ed for that. That's why I'm happy that the last few MK game's AI was programmed other people and react somewhat like a human player would.
This especially pisses me off because I have never played another human being in UMK3, MKT, or MK4

UMK3 does not have the cheapest AI ever. At least I can reach Shao Kahn in less than 5 kontinues. The AI in this game gives the player a way out of crappy situations (by skill, of course), and Motaro's AI can be exploited by Scorpion.
MKII's AI, on the other hand, is wildly famous for down right cheating. Remember the magical "throw-past-anything" maneuver? And when you try the "exploit the jump-kick using joystick two" trick, how are you supposed to escape when the comp blocks it, follows it with a sweep, vertical jump kick, perfectly timed projectile, or a dreaded throw? (How are you supposed to escape when the comp blocks a jumpkick anyway?) It makes it so I just don't wanna play MKII anymore.

I liked the computer sliding in MK2. That was fun. When you locked them down with projectiles so much they had to keep ducking, they'd eventually start sliding towards you while ducking.

Yes, I remember that Sliding in MK2 too, but it was on SNES only I think.
The AI is indeed the cheapest AI ever in the old MK games, only MK3 was half way ok, but even there I saw thinks like triple Telepunch from Sektor or triple net from Cyrax ect.
I dont can remember any other fighting game where the AI cheat in such a visibly way. Even most of the SNK fighting games wich are very hard dont cheat like that.
Street Fighter or KillerInstinct ect. can be hard, but the AI doesnt cheat there. ect.

You think Ultimate 3 was cheap? Try Trilogy. That is full of humanly impossible moves, like Motaro's quadruple tail shot, various impossible combos, etc. It's still one of my favs though.

Trilogy was cheap as hell. The computer would run up and throw you out of your moves and combos.
Only way you conld beat the game decisively was to play a character who had a juggle that could go into an infinite like Noob Saibot in the N64 version for example.

Of course there are patterns and things to beat the AI in UMK3... but if you just follow the patterns, you are forced into a methodical type of gameplay that just isn't fun. Words can't explain how refreshing it has been to have some human opponents lately.

0
No. No MK games AI have never been cheap. In fact all MK games have been so so easy. The AI is so systematic. If you do this the AI will do something for certain. Its all about learning the AI. UMK3 is just as same as past and future MK games when it comes to the AI...easy.

You dont have understand us, its not about beating the AI, its about how the AI is acting.
In StreetFighter2 for example you will never see that Guile throws 2 Sonic Booms at once, because its simply not possible to make that.
But in all the old MK,s the AI make impossible things like Triple SpinDash with Kabal ect, Throwing you out of a move ect.

uhhh if the 3rd strike ken parry of daigo never happened, and the cpu did it to my chun li, than that would be considered cheating
