Hi
New here and pretty new to the game as well and as there's no arcade around here I have no idea how the pros play the game. I tried to find some videos (preferably of a console version like SNES) in which people actually play instead of doing 100% combos, but I failed most miserably.

Anyone got such a video or knows where to find one?
If there just are no such videos I'd be grateful for a little advice. What do you do if the opponent just sits on the ground waiting for the uppercut ? Is there a way to throw someone even when he's down on his knees blocking?

thanks people

theres no such vids i dont think. not that i know of. but if u play it online with MAME then just play against ppl and watch how the good players play.

as for ur problem with guys sitting there waiting for the uppercut... if useing Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Jade, or some one who can send a projectile at them then that could get them to move. or u can run up to them and try doing a combo that does low strikes (like with Liu Kang run up and press LK 2 times). or run up but not all the way. just run up but all of a sudden do a sweep without getting in too close. or u can run right up to them and throw them with LP.

You can try running at them trying to bait them into doing an uppercut, either by stopping short or hitting block at the last second, then get some damage on them.

Or, as was mentioned, do some combos. Even if they block they'll take chip damage. Just chip them to death.

I suggest playing some uMK3 on Kaillera to get used to it. If you can't right now and your goal is to play on the arcade some day, play UMK3 for Genesis instead since the gameplay is a lot closer to the arcade then SNES is.

We got the game at school to fill free time, so it's a closed circuit of player and every game seems to have become pretty much the same. I'll probably never play it at an arcade, I just would have liked to get some input to make the games more interesting.

Isn't the LP-throw blockable by pressing the back-button while blocking? Kind of ruins the game for me, really.

I'll try to get my hands on the PC version and do some online games though.

Also, there is a distance from which you can do a crossup jump kick on most characters where you can land next to them on the other side within the animation of their uppercut and it'll miss, you can then throw them if they don't change their down+back position, if they do, you can often just block, and it leaves you close enough to get in with some run jabs, if they are uppercut happy, just block, run in, LP, cancel it with run, then do a combo that starts with a knee lift, and you should snuff their uppercut.

Can you cancel any move by pressing run? I always thought the Stryker Combos in which people only shoot really shortly were arcade-only.

Would be great if they weren't.

I also found some ingame videos in this very forum (d'oh) and the games seemed to be pretty straight forward without that much fancy things I've never seen before. Maybe we aren't that bad anyway. For SNES-players that is ;)

If you press the Run button after a HP or LP you will cut off the ending frames of the punch. Technically if you hit any of the buttons during a HP or LP you will do this but unless you are insanely fast Run is the best bet because that leads to run jabbing.

Also, in the corner, if you get something like an anti-air HP that would normally cause you to be pushed out of the corner you can cancel that with a special move. It doesn't have all the crazy canceling that alot of other games have.

Err, what exactly does "run jabbing" mean? :)

So there's no way to cancel Stryker's gun?

Run jabbing is where you tap punch and run, the run cancels the end of the punch and then you do another punch so you get rapid fire punches that are good for locking someone down in the corner. There has to be footage of it being used on here somewhere.

And there is no way to cancel Stryker's machine gun, the thing is when I use it to juggle I'll usually get popup to machine gun and the gun will go off for a little while before the opponent gets hit by it. THe animation of him firing lasts a certain amount of time and the animation of the opponent getting hit lasts a certain amount of time. The longer between Stryker firing and the opponent getting hit the more opportunity Stryker has to attack them as they are being hit by the machine gun.
