What exactly is high level gameplay?

I hardly ever get to play against anyone, and they usually play similar to me.
I'm not a big combo user, I usually stick to the basics, and special moves. I've seen a couple of the gameplay vids posted before, and I must say, holy shit!

How does anyone have any fun pwning someone in like 8 seconds? Is that what the tournaments were/are like?
I guess I just like slow paced, back 'n forth action.

I am not exactly a high level player myself, but I can imagine that it becomes a different kind of entertainment once it gets to truly high level play. You get to that point and it can be a lot more exciting, and the game kind of changes from how to use the strategies I know effectively to how do I figure out my opponent's strategy, break it down, and create a new strategy to deal with it.

Well, I'm personally just going to sum it up as playing the characters at their best and using the best strategies and all that stuff.

Essentially it is when two players can abuse and recognize the most effective tactics so well, that they have to completely reinvent gameplay as they go. You can't have a high level match when one person completely owns the other with high level tactics, that's only half a high level match. You can tell when two people are playing and know the game enough that they are attempting tactics that don't work because the other person would be doing the same thing and scouting it. I'll get into it more later, I have to go out, just wanted to get that out before some non high level players post inaccurate information.

A lot of high level tactics won't work against button mashers and scrubs.
