You know something? I never noticed the connection to the Prince song until you said it.

Yeah, I got a kick out of it when I heard from an interview that he was a huge prince fan. Purple Rain. Wow. Some day I hope to be able to put my own obscure personal jokes into games that thousands of people will play.
I always found his altered energy bar text interesting. Is it like that because it was easier to put a solid color image in then an image with multiple colors (and slanting the text would require multiple colors to anti-alias it a bit) or if its like drawn by the arcade machine on the fly.

The "Rain can be found in the Graveyard" message was activated by a kombat kode. It's also an inside joke at Prince's expense, as his career is asically dead.
Rain is playable in the home versions of UMK3, and Trilogy.
I always wondered why it showed Rain fighting Kahn on the Lost/Ermac's Portal/Scisslac Busorez stage.

No, actually, he was not playable on Saturn, because as I recall, Saturn UMK3 was a port of the Arcade Version with Classic Sub-Zero, Mileena and Ermac as hidden characters, not the Genesis/SNES version with Noob Saibot and Rain in it as playables as well as the other 3.He's not playable in arcade alright.
