Well, if you had the PC version, you were in the clear. I rarely played this game at the Arcades, due to the fact that arcades were dying out. But, yeah, it is a cool game, although I hate the new characters in it. I like the music in the game, it's more like the Klassics, and the graphics were pretty cool. Some of the fatalities were really good too. The endings were awesome. The ports were alright, but the PC one was the best. It was pretty arcade perfect, but then again, I rarely played it..
Peace.

Well I really liked the arcade version, and to an extent, the PS version.

The arcade had smooth graphics, whereas the PS version if very choppy and glitchy.

The fmv endings are cool, and I also like the bios in the theatre mode.

The speed of the game is probably it best quality. Me and my friend still sometimes pop in the mk4 cd and just beat the shit outta each other in practice mode. With no life bars u can just beat the hell outta each other non-stop, it is actualy really fun.

Adding Goro as the sub-boss for the home ports was a good idea too, classic sub-boss.

I thought the mood of the game was dark, like mk2 and 3, and had some cool stages and fatalities.

One of the smallest features that I absolutely LOVE is the Pit death as the continue screen! I really like that, and think they should bring it back for a future MK.

So those are some of the good points, but there are still TONS of negatives that cannot be overlooked. MK4 is probably the worst regular MK game, and really put the series in a rut. The overhyped promotion only hurt the game, cus it did not live up to expectations, but there were some good points, and that's what I listed. However, one day I would like to pick up a Dreamcast and MK:Gold, cus I think it would be worth it. The graphics are good, I like Kung Lao, Mileena, Kitana, Sektor and Cyrax and think the added stages and endings are cool too.

yeah definately go for mk gold, it uses twice the polygon count per charecter than in the arcade version. and the backgrounds got a facelift too. also, the blood is more animated, and alot more spraying around. it plays great, looks beautiful , and is actually suprizingly better than mk4 arcade. the graphics difference compared to arcade is giant upgrade. no more squared raiden hat. and a host of other bull. if gold was released in arcades instead, that would have definately sparked some interest.

i liked the n64 version of mk4. it had no loading times(from what i remember) and i didnt need a memory card to save endings. i have mkgold now which is pretty fun. it is the worst mk fighting game in my opinion but i still like it. i do like the music in it also(the netherrealm prison theme is the best). the 2 new characters that i liked are Reiko and Fujin.

I liked it because it was very fast paced and just fun to use IMO. Old favorites like Scorpion, Raiden, and Sub-Zero and new favorites like Reiko and Quan Chi. I personally like it much better than MK3, Ultimate 3 or Trilogy.
I wish I had MK Gold, because I'd probably like that better. But no Dreamcast so...shit outta luck.

I really enjoyed the N64 version of it. Very surprised at the sounds and graphics. A first time that N64 did a better job than PSX. The PSX can have its lame graphics and skip through FMVs for all I care.

Its probably my favorite of the games because it was built up well in MKM, and The various things mentioned in endings of MKT, such as Noob Saibots ending.

It was very fast and exciting, something that MKDA, and MKD lack...
I was just about to start a new topic about how MK: Gold is neglected to be the best version of MK4 there is. That's a given (Come on, Kitana, Mileena, Baraka, Lao, Sektor/Cyrax).

WHY HASN'T MIDWAY INCLUDED GOLD ON MAT2?

Or seriously, release it on MAT3 or just some kind of "Kompilation."

MK4/Gold kicks ass, IMO, because it's classic fighting!

they won't add gold to a future MAT because it wasn't released in arcades. if they have it on a "Kompilation" that would be "Kool." they would also be able to get rid of the load times for Gold. especially annoying in tag team mode when the music will stop also when the next person comes in.

i always went to the arcade to play mk4 and got it for pc as soon as i could.

i thought it was lots of fun...fast pace, weapons, looked good for the time, gory fatalities that were fun to watch, and i think my favorite is when you could hit someone with the hammer or others and have them slammed into the camera, or lui kangs fatalitiy where he throws you at the camera and blows you up right before you get there and blood splatters on it....haha

if i had a dreamcast i'd get gold for sure

Mk4 was....(was!) my favourite MK game, until MKGold came out.
These two were the best.
When you look at MK4, it has okay graphics and great gameplay.
When you look at MKGold, it has great graphics and great gameplay.
It has extra characters and fatalities, all from previous MKs like MkII and Mk3. All models have had updates for example, in MK4, sonyas face was flat, he nose was textured on, she didn't have a belt, those white rims on her boots or the strap across her thigh, now she has everything you see in the fmv endings. And also what was good about MKGold was Baraka had the best ending ever! grin

I loved MK4...it was the first 3D MK and I loved seeing the characters in 3D. I played it a lot in the arcades and it was just a lot of fun. It had cool fatalities, good music, and good graphics. Also, the home versions added Noob and Goro, which I thought was awesome. I also had MK Gold...I loved that game as well. The graphics were great and it had more characters and stages. I wish I could still play it but my Dreamcast is broken sad. I still have my N64 hooked up though, and I play MKT and MK4 regularly along with MK2 and 3 on my Xbox.

MK4 wasn't good for a lot of reasons listed above, but it still lead to MKGold and it was part of MK so I like it.

I liked Mortal Kombat 4 when it came out. Now, I can't stand the game. My biggest gripe about the game was there wasn't really a boss, or Sub boss and the graphics are just BLAH. I did like the prison stage though. Goro was a nice touch for the home versions but the new scratched character Bellok would have been better(MK Gold I believe he was slated to be in)

I was very dissapointed with MK4 but MKG changed it all because the whole set of kickass MK2 characters were back. Personally, I enjoyed how Sub-zero was given his nice spine rippin fatality again. There's an endless list of stuff making MKG 1000 times better than MK4, but I'm not going to extend myself here.
