I just recently bought MK Arcade Kollection, and out of all three games MK2 is the most difficult. The AI is impossible to defeat without doing jump kicks or using Baraka. I want to use my favorites like Scorpion and Sub Zero; but the only time I win with them is during the first match, or by luck. Also, why is the time to do fatalities so short?

I might be just bad at the game, but I'm solid at the other two. Any advice from the community?

Q: Why is MK2 so difficult?
A: This way it can consume all your dimes. Horrible AI.Q: Also, why is the time to do fatalities so short?
A: Arcade cabinets are hard... wood.Q: Any advice from the community?
A: Do I need to answer this question?

MK2's AI was deliberately programmed to be able to cheat. That's why every opponent past stage 2 always reacts perfectly to everything. A few obvious examples: they can reach over/through your sweeps and throw you. Their uppercuts use less frames and thus come out a lot faster. Your spears (Scorpion) or freezes (Sub-Zero) never hit them because they read your inputs so they always know they're coming.

It sucks the fun out of the game and it's annoyed and frustrated me ever since I started playing MK2. Someone should hack the MAME MK2 ROM and nerf the AI's abilities. I'd love to see (and play) that.

Is there a patch coming out to fix the game?

There's no given info regarding that question. Likely not, knowing NeRdS*.
NeRdS = NetherRealm Studios + Ed (Boon) = nerds (in good & bad!)

LOL patch.. Good one. Try the arcade joystick if u think the ported version is hard. You have to trick the AI:

This works with everyone except Raiden, Liu Kang and Kunk Lao: Just duck until they are right next to you, then jump backawards. The AI will jump toward you and you can juggle them to death. Only works on 'VERY HARD'. which is what you should use anyway. It's kind of like doom 1 on nightmare mode. They don't make games like that anymore because you guys cry when you cant win. The person in this video is horrible by the way but they give the basic logic. They could have done a HP, HP, teleport, spear, uppercut....

if they made a mame patch i would definitely download it, seriously mk 2 really isnt that good of a game because of the difficulty, i understand if you select hard and they pull that, but even on the easiest difficulty they STILL manage to knock your teeth in, ridiculous

Not to mention your uppercuts are either too far and theirs connects with you instead and if you're too close, they grab you instead. furious

Because the way they programmed the AI - it knows what button you pressed and knows how to counter every move.... it has flaws in the AI if you know what to look for.

The problem is the fact you need to use pattern exploits to beat the game. Not only does this make the game incredibly dull and repetitive, but it undermines the entire point of creating a single player AI that's *supposed* to mimic a human player.

Kitana throwing one fan right after the other, and Mileena throwing sai's at the same pace? C'mon guys!

Don't EVEN get me started on the bullshit input-reading in UMK3 and MK Trilogy (ever heard of tap dancing with the CPU?). Also, I'd like to know how Jade activates her projectile invincibility while running forward, and how Kabal can spin dash 3 times in a row.

It' piss-poor programming.

Apparently not, I learned that trick many moons ago back when I used to think MK2 was really hard, it still is but it's a fighting game from 1993 so what do you guys expect lol? Still one of the funnest MK's to play for sure, I can still play it for hours.

MKII was pretty tough in the day but if you play it and learn it good enough you can almost predict how the computer will control each player.

The majority of the fighters can beat the computer by suckering them into jumping at you and you throwing a simple High Kick at the right time.

MK2 AI is stupid as hell.

Jumpkick, but only push the low/high kick button when directly lined up against Kintaro's head for example. Double flawless on Very Hard easily.

Tier wise use Baraka or Mileena, Jax or Kitana if you are hardcore, those four are top tier and have the most to bring to a match and their specials, especially Baraka's is mostly safe. Do not pick ninjas, they are bottom.

Move up to Kintaro, beat him with aforementioned tactic, and then survive Kahn. Progress will not be as hard.

Ninjas are the easiest to win with. Beat Mk2 with every character on Very Hard, then come back and report. On the arcade, home ports don't count.

This game was released for the arcades. Harder AI means more coins in the machine. It's about the money.
