worst finishing move ever
08/15/2013 02:21 PM EST
i;ve got a complaint with MK2 & 3, babalities

they have annoyed me since i first started playing MK3 in 1995 and i didn't know they existed in MK2 until 2007

at least with friendships while they have gotten old by now were at least more entertaining to look at

why do babalities even exist?! furthermore, why do people like them so much?!

It's because they crushed you without using HP or LP, like winning with BOTH arms tied behind their back and the Babality at the end proves it was legit.

I'm with you on this one.... not a big fan of Babalities myself. I believe they are placed in there for some comic relief on an otherwise very serious fighting game.

Finishing moves in general are rather pointless, actually.

They're not pointless at all. They are a huge part of the MK and the main reason such attention was brought to the series in the beginning. In fact the violence portrayed in the fatalities was the main catalyst in the rating system being created.

You may not care for finishing moves, but calling them pointless is nonsense. Without them MK is just another cool fighting game. Fans still can't wait to see what the new finishers will look like with each game that comes out and that won't go away any time soon, if ever. My two cents.

My opinion for worst finishing move ever is Smoke's "blow up the world" fatality from MK3.

I never said I didn't care for them. I just said they are rather pointless. They serve no real purpose to the actual gameplay, and are just an extra to perform after the fact. Sure, they get a big draw from the crowds, but it really has nothing to do with the actual fighting mechanics of the game.

I kinda get your point, but in a way, I'd say that, while they don't add anything constructive to the fight itself, they are supposed to be the ultimate demonstration of the winning opponent's trademark powers. If the opponent is supposed to kill his foe, especially after an arduous duel which called for a whole array of superpowers, it is assumed he will use the apex of his/her special abilities to do so, which is what makes fatalities that spectacular.

E.g. fans of Scorpion will be bound to get more fascinated by his "firebreathing skull" finisher than by his mere spearthrow; Shang Tsung's fans will fawn over him turning into a clown (I am not of those fans, but that's for another story) more than shooting triple fireball; Liu Kang's fans will prefer his "dragon morph" finisher than bicycle kick... and the list goes practically the same way for the rest of the roster.
Look, now Baraka has grown hair and beard! Shit, the time does fly...

It is difficult to choose just one but I'll list one from each game I've played:

Mortal Kombat
Hard to choose here but right now it is Liu Kang's Dragon Tail Whip Fatality

Mortal Kombat II
Still here it would be Liu Kang's Dragon Tail Whip Fatality again.

MK3
Although original it would be Jax's version of Pest Control. I don't see how Jax can all of the sudden become a huge giant and crush you like a bug. At least Ermac's made more since because he used magic to shrink the opponent first.

Ultimate MK3
Here I am only speaking on the additional fighters added. Out of those newer fighters added and for me it is a tie with Scorpion's and Classic Sub-Zero's finishers that black out at the end. They could have taken a little more effort to bring back my favorite MK1 Fatality by adding in the head and spine but why black it out. Scorpion's I would have just like to have seen what they would have done with it.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy
I am only speaking here again on the new additional fighters who were brought back. And it has to go to the Nintendo 64's Johnny Cage Shadow Kick Fatality. Horrible in my opinion. They should have kept all fatalities the same across both platforms.

Mortal Kombat 4
I hated both of Fujin's Fatalities here

Mortal Kombat V: Deadly Alliance
I hated almost all of them. But the one I hated the most would be Mavado's kick fatality thing.

Mortal Kombat Deception
Shujinko's sword arm slice fatality

Mortal Kombat Armageddon
EVERY SINGLE ONE -- there was no creativity here with the create a finisher mode.

Mortal Kombat (2011)
Quan Chi's Sword Fatality. I mean come on he had a better 2nd Fatality in MK4 than he does here. He is a sorcerer and they couldn't come up with anything better than that?

Worst finishing move: Quan Chi's neck stretch is probably going to be there.

Which is hillarious as it is one of the most gruesome fatalities in concept. Decapitation by severing the spine from the skull. Imagine if he lets go of that head and it falls to the ground. Now add some groovy crunching sounds to that and you have a probably very nice fatality without blood.

it is not about the blood. It never was about the blood. It is about making you vince.

i didn't say worst fatality ever, i said worst finishing move ever

worst type of fiinshing move

the only reason friendships and babalities were added were due to demands from parents to tune down the violence

there really is no reason to do anything BUT a fatality

babalities: the most anti-gore finishing move in the game, making it COMPLETELY pointless
friendships: the joke gets old after you've seen them a few times
animalities: require you to do a mercy AND must be done on round 3

i'm glad those finishing moves were removed in mk4
