2-D stages
I've been thinking, after some minutes of brainstorming.
Should there be at least a couple of 2-D stages where everything is in 3-D but you can only move back and forth, like the old MK games, sorta how games like the smash bros series works; everything in 3-D but can only move in 2 dimensions?
I thought of one of the most perfect stages for this idea, the Dead Pool back in a 2-D platform, unlike the Deception version which is a large square platform for 3-D advantage battles.
Stages like the Dead Pool would allow you to fight like normal but as if you were only using the D-Pad for 2-D movement for this game, and the Analog stick would be kinda useless in these stages.
Also, those silver doors at the ends of the Dead Pool would be great to connect to other chambers that are identical to the dead pool and it would loop every time someone is thrown towards into those doors.
So opinions, mortals and immortals?
P.S. Don't insult to criticize.
Constructive criticism.

Great idea. It'd be cool to have as a secret area (if you hit someone through a wall or something) I think it'd be cool
i agree, i think this would be awsome, but like above stated i would like it as some hidden super secret place. Like hit them down this cliff and then through this wall to get it. something less obvious. I would like the pit redone in such a manor. that would be great!

I much prefer 2d fighters, best idea someone's had on this board in a long while. Give that man a dragon point.

I'm sorry to have to disagree, but i think that we should quit trying to work for the nostalgia and try to move forward with our gameplay. With the ablitly to improve games further why would we take the step back into 2 demensional elements? I understand how the older gamers would like it, the people that grew up with 2-d mk, but you've got to take into account the new gamers. Do you really think a kid these days would enjoy a game that limits you to only 2 directions. yes super smash is a great success, but its also a fairly new game, it has the convience of always being 2-d. Now that Mk has taken the step into the 3-d world, i don't think theres any going back. If you really want the past back, go play an old game, don't work the new ones to be them.

The only problem is, some grabs and things work on a 3d plane.. like the leg takedown would never work on a 2d plane.
they would need to disable the grabs in those parts of levels, or create new grabs for those areas

I agree with what you are saying about the nastalgia, but i wouldn't say don't include it at all, it would be great as a super secret place to battle. I don't think they should go back to 2-d at all. The 3-d gameplay can go so much further if done right. But this game plays like a 2-d fighter rendered in 3-d so it could work. And i love the easter eggs MK was famous for, but the last few incarnations have had squat in that department (the vault, graveyard, tomb or whatever they were called doesn't count as easter eggs, If it is there and advertised for you to unlock, its an unlockable not an easter egg.) fighting smoke in mk2 was an easter egg, if you didn't know what to do because someone had told you, you wouldv'e never have found him. but i would welcome this ideah as a hidden part of the game not a stage you are forced to play on but one you would have to find inside another level.

mk4 was basically 2d gameplay in a 3d environ. dunno about 3d play in a 2d. does sound like a step backward.
