I dont quit understand the hdd, but I was talking to a gamestop employee, and she said count on the hdd to eliminate or cut down significantly the loading time, because most future games made will use the hdd, but the hdd also has other featrues I dont have a clue about (it looks very cool by the way) and im getting it soon, so I can install it in the ps2.

Just wanna let everyone know that you shouldnt take the hdd very lightly.

when I asked the employee if past games loading times will speed up, the employee responded:

Well have to wait and see. Any thoughts?

because the other games are already in the making.. and is almost ready to ship.. then again.. its going to be released at the end of 2004. so who knows..

Why not take advantage of the hdd instead of making an expansion pack?

they should sell harddrive with its own item. unstand of bundle with the games that needs it. bc what if u already have a harddrive from another game?
so do we give the other harddrive to a buddy?
or just sell it?

thats wasting money if u already have a harddrive. peace.

mkda took advantage of the xbox hdd....sort of. there were no loading times when opening koffins or inbewteen every other match. there was loading between each match. but never the "saving to memory card" crap that slowed down the ps2 version.

I really don't see the HDD as important as everyone else does. If all it can do is decrease loading time and download content I am not phased.

Well besides doing those two things it also lets us add our own custom sound tracks and we can have thousands of songs to listen to so it doesnt get old

thats what i love about the hard drive

and the load times is really a bonus

Its kind of bullshit if you think about it. I'm not out to hurt people's feelings, but you should have bought an xbox...no correction I should have bought an Xbox.I have a PS2, and I'm sick of upgrading it.

At first it was a slick, slender machine..quite beautiful, but wasting more and more money on it to get to par with xbox is crazy! All Ps2 owners are going to have these huge machines by the end of it all, not to mention the wasted money. PS2 and Xbox are the same price, but XBox is worth the money...man I wish I invested.

1)You want four controllers...ADD ON
2)You want to get this thing online...ADD ON
3)You want to get a Hardrive...ADD ON

Wow, you could have purchased 2 Xboxes by now!

Thank God I also have a cube, I play it way more than my PS2muchbullshit.
With that said, I will still buy the Hard Drive...

Well MKD will use the HD on xbox as it was used in MKDA. but as for the PS2?? who knows? for that too happen, i'm guessing they would have to code to detect for the HD, and use it if found otherwise stream from the DVD instead. Seems like a lot of unnecessary work to me.

And with expansions, personally i'd like to buy the game and actually have the disc to hold, rather than downloading it. If my HD dies at least i've still got the game.

As far as it's use on past games, i don't think that'll ever happen, as i would think the game would have to be coded to use the drive.

How did the prediction of the HDD being used for MKD calculate out to 90%?

People like to pull numbers out their butts. I do it too.

But HDD just doesn't deal with the loading times. GC has no HDD and its loading times are really quick, sometimes even outdoing the Xbox in some games (if you check IGN's head-to-head they benchmark loading times). It is RAM that really deals with the loading. There is no hiding the fact that the PS2 is a sub-standard machine in terms of today's technology. Sony didn't design the machine to hold up for years obviously, but it has because of popularity and that's lucky. GC and Xbox are more powerful machines but get little love (especially the GC) and they both can do great things. HDD or no HDD it'll still take a while to load on PS2 because of the low amount of RAM that is in the PS2.

As the poster aboce me said which I think is true about load time all being about RAM. I wouldn't want MK6 to make use of the hard drive, for like new costoses, weapsons and what not. Because that is sort taking away from the ideas from the next Mortal Kombat game. To me when a game is release that should be it. Sure I dont mind a patch to fix bugs and what not. When it comes to Mortal Kombat a fighting game to me it should stay the same adding new ideas to the same game sort of makers it hard to come up with new ideas for the sequel(MK7)

They improve preformance some but not much. Look at pirated XBox games(not on disc of course). They improve some what. But I doubt MK dev team will use this to their advantage.
