This story is based on an idea by a friend of mine and a member of MKO, Yanden. I used his idea, added my own and turned them into this sstory. enjoy.
Shang Tsung: Protector of Earth Realm
The Deadly Alliance has been successful in their task of reviving the Dragon Kings army. Shang Tsung had realised that he would need to take precautions if he were to remain a beneficial partner in this alliance. Upon transferring some souls into the bodies of the army, Shang had secretly transferred some of the souls from within his own body. He would have control over these souls, despite the spell on the amulet. As insurance, he had made a seperate spell and had cast it upon these souls so that they would obey him if the need to give then a command should arise. Shang absorbed the souls from the soulnado.
Quan Chi had no intention of keeping Shang Tsung as his partner. He was no fool and secretly created a second spell and cast it in secret using the power of the amulet. The spell rendered all souls within he bodies of the army under his control, but he also added that any orders from Shang Tsung were not to be followed. As long as he had the amulet, they were his to command.
The Deadly Alliance had come to the end of their task and it was now time to attack Earth. In order to be successful, they would have to take out the one person who could make trouble for them. Namely, Raiden God of Thunder. Since Liu Kang was dead, they no longer had to fear the Earth realm champion. Raiden was the one they had to worry about now. They could not let him gather more threats from Earth to oppose them. He would be destroyed at the hands of their new army.
Ambush at the Temple of the Elder Gods
Raiden was on Earth, doing exactly what the Deadly Alliance had feared. He had already spoken to Nightwolf and requested his aid in the coming battle. He had also spoken once again to Sub-Zero, Kung Lao, Master Cho and Kitana amongst others. He had secured many allies and was now at this moment at the sacred Temple of the Elder Gods. He was in a meeting with them. Unknown to him, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi were waiting for him outside. They had given one of their army members the command to spy on the thunder god.
As Raiden was leaving the temple, they sprang their attack. Quan immediately sent a skull fireball straight at Raiden as soon as he appeared in the exit. The skull was followed by one of Shangs flaming Skull fireballs. Raiden however was too fast for them and summoned a bolt of lightning, which struck the two projectiles, destroying them.
Raiden charged at them, his staff suddenly materialising in his right hand. Quan and Shang both moved in seperate directions to appear on either side of Raiden. It was now, that Quans secret plan would be executed. He went to attack Raiden but was knocked swiftly to the ground by a quick blow from the staff. Raiden rounded on Shang and delivered a quick backfist punch to his jaw. Seeing the opportunity, he performed his shoulder dash special move, which rendered Shang temporarily immobile. It was now that Quan struck.
As Raiden had been fending off Shang, Quan had taken the opportunity to open a portal. As Raiden turned around to deal with Quan, the portal opened and through it stepped several of the dead soldiers from the DKs army. Quan quickly gave them a command.
DESTROY RAIDEN AND SHANG TSUNG!
The army members raised their weapons and charged at Raiden. Some sprinted past him heading for Shang. Raiden stood his ground for as long as he could whilst Quan stood and watched. With his staff he impaled one member and quickly tossed them off the staff into two other soldiers. To his left, a soldier closed in ready to strike Raiden, however Raiden managed to sidestep and gave a baseball style swing with the bat sending the soldier flying backwards. More members stepped out of the portal and Raiden was being outnumbered even more. Stepping backwards he began to channel electricity into the staff. As soon as he had done, he threw it into the air! The staff hovered vertically and then released the electrical energy striking each soldier knocking them to the ground.
More appeared! Raiden launched into his torpedo and knocked several down. However more closed in on him. Quan, sent a skull fireball at Raiden who dived to the side to avoid it. As he rose from a quick roll, he was met by the sharp blade of a katana sword. The soldier thrust the sword into Raidens chest. The thunder god fell, defeated.
Shang had been surrounded and could not move. He had been shouting commands at the soldiers telling them to attack Raiden and Quan but none of them obeyed. Quan made his way over to them just as Raiden fell and stopped the army from killing Shang. He laughed mockingly and explained to Shang that he was in full control. The amulet was the source of control! He would kill Shang himself. Taking the sword of one of the soldiers he smiled evilly and raised it ready to decapitate Shang. It was at this moment that a super charged electrical projectile hit Quan in the back. His body was propelled violently forwards over Shangs head. Quans body landed on the ground, jerking violently. Seizing the moment, Shang darted towards him evading the soldiers who moved after him. Shang grabbed the amulet and ordered the soldiers to stop.
He was too late to save Raiden. The soldiers near him seeing that Raiden had moved attacked him again. By the time Shang gave out the command, Raiden had been mortally wounded. It was now at this moment that Shang realised that Raiden had saved his life. He owed his life to the thunder god. Moving over to Raiden quickly, he found the god near death. Shang thanked him for saving him. Raiden, with his dying breath told Shang to finish him. It was at this moment that Shang realised what he must do. He had spent his life evil and it had lead him to more defeats than triumphs. Knowing that he owed Raiden his life, he made a promise. He would server Earth realm and becomes its protector. He proceeded to taking Raidens soul and with it, Raidens powers. A loud crash of thunder sounded as Raiden passed on.
There outside the Temple of the Elder Gods stood Shang Tsung, Protector of Earth Realm.

lol Most wouldn't expect it at all! Which is why it's surprising and why the title of the story catches your attention. Thanks alot TomTaz!

TG, good job, alot of work went into that...HOWEVER, as a big Shang Tsung fan, I just don't think it would go over THAT well, only because all throughout the ENTIRE Mortal Kombat franchise, Shang Tsung has been the one constant embodiment of evil. The one tangibles representative of the EVIL that is represented in Mortal Kombat. Shang is like a chameleon. He's basically a much more powerful, and highly skilled version of Kano. Coniving, but oppurtunistic, waiting for the right moment to strike, his ego is enormous. These characteristics, which are defining, for Shang, would probably make it hard for me to believe that he could become "noble" and become grateful for Raiden saving his life. He's far too egocentric to become modest enough to actually thank one of his most bitter rivals through each Mortal Kombat installment.
It's still a very interesting storyline though, and it was well-written. One of the main reasons why I love the storyline is because it would make Shang somewhat indespensible, it wouldn't be very likely if he were killed off, as a good guy, who's forever in debt to Raiden, BUT, it also just wouldn't be the same Shang that I've grown to love over the years, because the guy I love is a deceiver, a coniver, oppurtunistic and pure evil.

thats very ironic that you are in this post shangtsungniceguy lol. You have a valid point though, I dont see Tsung actually being grateful either. He'd probably laugh it off and go on to rule earthrealm

All valid points, dude. I think Shang would be a little relieved and greatful that his life was saved, but I also doubt he would ever live in debt to another, especially Raiden. I'd prefer him to stay evil. That's how and who he is. That is what we've known him to be for so long.
And thanks man! I'm glad you liked the story.
Blackwizard: That definitely seems like Shang! He'd laugh at what Raiden did and then just go on to take over Earth as you said.
WoW!
The best part its definitely the ending dude! I love the way you made Rayden die and how Tsung actually became the new protector.
I dont like the idea of a bad-tsung gone good, BUT, that eding DOES have potential!
We will all be guessing if Tsung is actually what he says he is now, if he will help or trick his new "friends", etc.
He would be like this great danger, we ignore what he will do, and worst, the warriors have to accept him and fallow his orders.
The fight was my second favorite part! But the one that caught my attention was:
KILL RAYDEN AND SHANG TSUNG! (Quan Chi)

at that point when raiden is on the ground u can control the cutscene with button presses. it says press R1 and forward.
and suddenly shang laughs at raiden and steps on his head making his head fall off. then quan chi and shang thank each other for the set up and a job well done LOL/.

Thanks Queve. I'm glad you liked the story and those parts in particular.
I don't like the diea of Shang being good, but it's a change and a huge twist. Knowing Shang, his debt to Raiden wouldn't last long. But as soon as he can vanquish any enemies, then he'll have a better chance of ruling Earth with his new powers. But that's when Raidens soul kicks in!

I really like this idea about tsung turning good and becoming earths protector.
The one thing I didn't like about it was how raiden was beaten so easy!

Thanks man. I didn't want to drag the fight out too much. Raiden wouldn't go down so easily, but I had to keep it short. He is my fave and normally I'd have him do some serious damage first, but it turned out fine as it is.

tg, this is such a good story, involving the transformation of one of the biggest villians on a videgame, this is just soooooocool, the plot twist is great. good work Ty

Great story! Only one question...how did a ordinary sword cause do much damage to Raiden on his home turf. He's a god and should have been the same as immortal or at least be able to teleport the hell out of there.
Sorry, I just don't like the idea of Rayden dieing. So I'm going to nikpik.

He's on Earth and is mortal still. He is vulnerable to death as we all know. And this is Raiden we're talking about LadyRaiden. I doubt he would flee from his opponents, depite the odds. He must protect Earth at all costs.

Lmao! Thanks for bringing that to my attention! I would never have noticed that and I'm sure no one else did! lol Quan must've been a little horny!

Although the idea of Shang being good is hard for a lot of people to swallow, it makes sense under the circumstances. The person he figured to be his ally had backstabbed him, and as it seemed, there wasn't an escape from the treachery. But Quan's betrayle combined with Raiden's aid probably put him in a state of mental chaos. The evil which he gave his life to didn't make sense to him anymore. He had spent his mortal life obtaining power, but after gaining everything, he was forever vulnerable to his own roots.
Good story, bro.

More nikpiking (sorry) how can Shang become Protector of Earthrealm when it is Fujin, not Rayden who is acting Protector. The Shang MIGHT become, is a Thunder God. Remember Rayden was more than his power, and I'm not sure if Rayden's wisdom and knowledge would be included in the soul steal, more likely it is but not 100% sure.
Also, would Shang have to continue to steal souls in order to survive? You stated that Rayden was mortal at the time he died, then would Shang have inherited any immortality that wasn't there? How can a 'good guy' feed on souls, even evil souls?

tgrant,
That is great. The only things I would change would be the fact that Raiden would not charge them or attack. That's not in his character. He would be defensive till he got his enemy in a position of weakness.
And here's a real twist. Instead of killing Raiden off with a sword, Tsung would suck his soul out. Big bright golden soul. Then we see Tsung physically contort and volently shake as he mentally graples with the consequences of Raiden saving his life and his past. He now has a conscience and a real soul.
I don't mean to change your story, but I believe these would be more consistent in the MK universe. Plus it creates the posibility of the Thunder God's return.

Thanks for your thoughts and input. I guess Shang could takle Raidens soul before the sword wound finishes him off, but I would prefer he died that way. Shang would not defeat him. As for Raidens return, I believe that as a powerful entity, Shang would not be able to control Raidens soul fully. Shang is merely storage for Raidens soul until a new body is found or something. If Shang was ever to stray from good, Raiden is still powerful enough to take over shangs body and put him back on track.

Well, if you remember Konquest, Shang leanrt his Crane and Snake styles after obtaining those skills from the souls of warriors he'd killed. So I am assuming that Raidens knowledge, wisdom etc would be given to Shang. Immortality would not be passedon as Raiden was indeed himan. He would have to be given that by the Elder gods. I am however not sure about him having to continue stealing souls. He could do and this act would make the Earth warriors a little weary of him.
A very wel-written story...if one can get past the fact that Shang would obviously sooner spit on the Thunder God's body rather than be grateful in any way to him (that's as difficult to buy as the concept of Mileena using toothpaste). But a great read, well done.

Yeah I know. It is a hard concept to accept. But given that Shang was once good, it is in his nature, deep down. And thanks man.
