The weapon should stay on the ground, but when the round is over it should be put back to the green sqare that it came from originally.

I think it should remain waiting for youto pick up. If the opponent has hit you with it, your going to want a little revenge, so you'll want the weapon to remain after they drop it so you can punish them with it!
