I've heard a lot of people talking about how it should be optional whether or not death traps function as a ring out or an end of the match. Here's the problem: It'd work fine for single player games, but what about versus games, online or otherwise? Shouldn't both players be in agreement as to how the death traps work?
Here's one solution: Bring back the "slot machine" options selector from MK3, to appear at the vs. screen right before a match. Remember? I think one of the codes was 010 010 to disable throws. Say that death traps are ring out by default. There could be separate codes to make them end the match or to turn them off.
Another idea: Winner's choice. Each player has a profile set in their memory card/HD, with all of their preferences inside. Whoever the winner of the last match was has their preferences set for the next game. A message can appear on the screen before the match stating what the conditions are. As to the problem of who gets the priviledge for the first match, maybe it can be established by # of koins or win/loss ratio.
These are just a couple ideas I had for a feature that I think will have a problem. If you see any holes in either of these solutions or have a better idea pls say so. The more brains the better.

Good ideas man.
I don't really think there should be a Kombat code option for online. Besides, the Kombat codes required the input off both palyers. There may be so who might not want to put the code in and so will mess it up on purpose or not bother at all.
Players should just be able to agree on whether the deathtraps are on or off, then switch them or or off respectively. Or maybe everyone online could have a profile indidcating their preferred fighting options and so anyone who wants the deathtraps off will have that shown before people chllenge them. Those who want them off can then fight that person.
The winners choice idea is good and forces players to play well if they want control over the possible outcome of the next match. As for who gets to decide what the first match options will be, that should not be done. The first battle will be to gain control over that. That way it's fairer.

Good ideas and I agree 100%.
As far as Death Traps are concerned though, this constant mentioning of just "turning them off" as a justification for their current implementation is simply bypassing the problem.
I'll assume that most, if not ALL, of the people that do NOT like that Death Traps end the ROUND only, certainly DO NOT want to feel they have to turn them off.
I love the idea of Death Traps as they will add a MUCH needed layer to the game, but I just want the option to have them end the entire MATCH as it fits more within the series and will add a MASSIVE amount of tension to EVERY round of EVERY fight!
Think of the possibilites:
Win Conditions: 3 out of 5 rounds
Death Traps: End MATCH
Time Limit: Off/Infinite
You're up 2 rounds to 0 against your opponent and you are easily winning the 3rd round. Late into the round you get a little sloppy and end up getting launched into a Death Trap unexpectedly.
Even with such a HUGE lead on your opponent, EVERYTHING can be lost with ONE little mistake. Gotta love that!!!
* That's the one thing that seperates MK from the rest of the genre...
EVEN WHEN YOU LOSE... IT'S STILL FUN!!!

Servers or "areas" could be set up with certain options. People are grouped and play together with the same options. Just like Unreal tournament or halflife.

I say if there is an option(and I'm hoping) that who ever is hosting the match gets to choose, but he can change it if the guy/girl he is playing agains request it by going the options before you start the match.
