a question about the unlockables

hm this thing bothers me:
there is this krypt, where we can unlock different things, and they also say that we can unlock new stuff in the konquest mode...
so, to unlock liu kang, or some other secret character, will it be in the krypt, or konquest ?

so far....alternates have mostly been unlocked in the krypt...Ex: the koffin/grave "KI" is scorpions alternate from umk3....and most backrounds and actual characters are mostly in konquest but sometimes, you never know, just gonna have to wait and find out...and the super unlckables are heavily rumored to be only in konquest
