I was able to pick up the game today from Blockbuster on PS3.

Well, this is a completely new mk. Going back to the Roots of primarily playing in 2d will be a challenge. Even though you can move in 3d, it seems slow and you wont be able to dodge that fireball unless its a bit far from you.

Every character and their basic movement feels completely different from the other. In other words, it will take you some time to master one character, as they are all very very different from another.

I feel I can safely say this IS the mk we have been waiting for. see you online

Now see, that's what I've been hearing elsewhere too. "Every character feels different". This is what the people who keep complaining "the animations look just like MKA all over again" are missing, because they're just watching videos and don't have any hands-on experience. You have to play a game to know what it's like, folks.

It does sound quite good that every casual player I've heard from likes the gameplay. This should be good grin

Sounds solid, this game seems like the first 3D Mortal Kombat to actually get things right.

Now the framework is set to make the next Mortal Kombat into the ultimate game, complete with the return of the full violence and more MK characters.

If only Midway wasn't in such financial trouble right now.

I had a feeling the gameplay would be fine. It looked that way to me from all the videos I've seen. I've been trying to explain the 2D gameplay elements to all the naysayers but they don't seem to understand what I mean. I have heard nothing but good things reagrding the gameplay from the people who actually play fighting games for the engine, not the fatalities.

Thanks man, my faith is restored with this series.

Peace

What are your thoughts on Klose Kombat. Does it seem to slow down the gameplay a bit too much. Would you have prefered to see flashy regular throws in place of it insteaD?

I have to agree, been playing off and on all day long. It feels a bit "stiff" at first but after playing online and going through the MK side of the story I feel its a huge step in the right direction engine wise. I am a bit worried about some balance issues with a few of the characters but obviously its too early to really tell.

More then anything Im upset I cant get the guide till tomorrow but was able to get the game early. Have seen some nice combo's from the computer and players online and have only really gotten a few good ones off myself.

*EDIT*

I dont mind close combat, for me it doesnt detract much at all, the multi-tier "mini game" is great also except once you or your foe hit the ground you have to wait 2-4 seconds or so before the battle can resume. Nothing major just a minor gripe.

I've personally found that klose kombat is not used very often but its a welcome addition as it gives you a breather from the normal gameplay and its fun to guess what the other player with press.

Now that ive played about 2 days now, im not sure if im so excited anymore. i dont think i really like this mk much..and its not feeling like its growing on me.
it seems kinda slow, and a bit unresponsive.
i might return it now, and keep playing gears2

JRF that's a big swing in the other direction eh?

This is my favorite fighting game i've ever played. I just want more characters though, but each one currently in the game is just so awesome to use.

Kind of like the Wii, no? Only now you've wasted less money.

Imagination entices imagination.

In order to fully grasp a game, you have to use your imagination. That is why I prefer to play games that involve character creation, i.e. WWE, SC3-4, the Sims, Def Jam, etc.

it is definately a little stiffer than I would like, but unless all these infinite rumors turn out to be true,I don't think it will be irredeemable. It is definately the most serious effort they've taken towards a competitive fighter in a good while.
