Alternate Costumes

I have a bunch of alternate costumes, but, how do I use them? Do I look at the picture in the Krypt and stare at it, or can you wear them somehow? I pressed a whole bunch of buttons and nothing works. Anybody know how to use them?
If you've unlocked them, press start for PS2 and Xbox. Ar-Wii-geddon with the wiimote w/ or w/o nunchuck, press +, for the GC controller and Classic controller, press start/+.
