Hey everyone.. long time lurker, new poster here. I've been playing a lot of Deception with my room mate and he completely owns me as Kobra. I'm a devout Ermac player and I can never seem to beat his insanely fast combos. To make things worse, I play much much more than my room mate does. Anyone have any tips on how I can beat him and restore my pride?

I know you're a devout Ermac player, but I think Ermac's moves are too slow to beat Kobra. You have more of a chance against someone with either 1)Speed- Liu Kang or 2)Gives you a free hit - Aka Sub Zero or Scorpion

I can beat him fairly easy as Kabal. Yeah, I agree that Ermac's moves are much slower than Kobra's, but I'll keep trying anyways.

The big trick with any character, but probably more so the slower ones is Timing. You don't have to hit your opponent alot to do alot of damage, You just need to know when to hit them.
Incorporate his tele-slam and tele-toss after combos, I occasionaly go right from the slam into the toss before the person can hit the ground. You can occasionaly get away with the dive bomb at the end of pop ups and combos as well.
Just train hard, most things you think should be possible in this game are.

Like Azerath said, its all about timing. And the knowledge of your character and who your opponent is using. My brother totally mastered Kobra, its the only character he uses, and Ermac is my top choice..always. When we fight with those two i just wait for my openings and peg him with tele throws and slams. And the occassional hado-energy when you see an opening. Also, against Kobra, the Axe style works best in my opinion.
Just practice practice practice.

Dude Kabal's a pimp, they did good one him this time.Although i dont play as him he would make a great character for you to try.I played as Ermac at first but i always go back to Scorpion for some reason, plus his alternate costume is hella bad ass looking.

lol... this game is balanced very very well. everybody has its ups and downs and its impossible to measure, cept shujinko. hes a bit too good. (and everyone has to agree lol) but anyway, ermac is total pro, you just have to know what ure doing. :D (i dont know what to do really, just giving encouragement.)

Choy Lay Fut 1,1,b+2 ~ Teleslam ~ Teletoss takes a lot of damage, especially on counter hit. Of coutse, it is pretty worthless (most of the time) until breakers are expended.
So you can goad someone into a Teleslam (by staying far back to keep distance) into a juggle combo, forcing them to break. Kobra will most likely use that stupid teleport punch. Just block, and throw him, then try the Teleslam to combo technique.
Choy Lay Fut also has a crouch sweep, which is always good, for mid range and close range combat. You can follow up with a throw if he blocks (standing) after being sweeped.
Hua Chuan has b+1, which stuns (Can follow up with Teleslam into a combo, or into a Teletoss). And 3, which knockdowns and pushes far (AND hits mid, which is very excellent for low blockers). And b+1,3 , which combines both. And 4 knockdowns and pushes back, though not as effectively as 3.
Axe has a lot of knockdown/push attacks. It also has a mid multi-hit combo (b+1), and 2 launchers (b+2, d+2). The combos that end with 4,4,4s can be used every once in a while to surprise an opponent. f+1 is a nice push attack, but it only hits high, so use it sparingly.
-His tele attacks barely telegraph, so it is always good to use once in a while.
-The Hado-Energy is a waste of time, as are all other generic projectiles.
-The float attacks are only good to use when the opponent is under pressure, and when you are at mid range, so that if they attempt to jump when you float, you can kick them midair, because more times than not, a regular MKD player will jump when Ermac floats, in anticipation for the Dive Bomb. So it is better to use in mid range to close-mid range, to kick them when they jump.
-Of course, the Dive Kick is not always successful; nothing is safe and/or guaranteed in MKD. If they do not jump, you can always dive bomb. Once the animation for dive bomb has started, Ermac is invincible. Until he gets up from the attack. I have seen Nightwolf's lightning bolt pass through it. As well as Scorpion's Spear, Sub-Zero's freeze, Liu Kang's fireball, Ermac's Hado-energy, etc. Slam attacks might hit him, though (Eg: Dairou's extremely fast ground slam thing). Because once the animation ends, Ermac is grounded, so if the slam attack is inititated as he gets up from the attack, Ermac will get hit, because the properties of the slam will override the final few frames of the attack (Getting up animation). So it is also impossible to jump out of it. So hope your opponent does not have good timing.

Ahh.. excellent. These pointers will help me out really well. What difficulty level should I practice on? Lately I've been playing on Easy difficulty, but I feel like I can advance more.
