I didn't see any chess pieces that resemble him just Scorpion and Sub-Zero from MKDA.

However a Human-Smoke looking character is on a concept art picture of the Nether Belly Ship. I'm guessing this suggests the creators are considering using Smoke or at least giving the creat-a-character a grey MK ninja outfit. Or it means absoulutely nothing.

I'm pretty confident Smoke will be in the game in one of his forms, since many of the other cult-favorites that have been out of action for awhile are returning(Ermac,Sindel,Baraka,Nightwolf,etc.) I'm hoping he'll be in.
