Anyone else think Marvel characters fit better?
Oh, I'm not arguing that some cosmic characters from Marvel are more popular than diety-like characters from DC. I'm in completely agreement with many of those points. In no way was I trying to imply that the "god" characters of Marvel, such as Silver Surfer, Sentry, Nova, or even Hulk, were more popular than the "god" characters of DC. I can easily name more superpowerful characters from DC than I can from Marvel.
What I was trying to state is that Marvel's more "human-level" heroes are more popular than most of DC's "god" characters. It's ultimately apples and oranges though. The public and media has often stated that they love characters like Spider-man, the X-men, Iron Man, and The Hulk because they are incredibly flawed, often times "just above average" individuals. Peter Parker is a parallel to coming-of-age teenagers and young adults coping with life's problems, X-men are a parallel of race and social identities, Iron Man lacks superpowers and must rely chiefly on his intellect, etc. Marvel characters are mostly, not always, but mostly characters we can relate to and empathize with better, which actually makes their cosmic characters, like The Sentry or Nova, with their "power of a million exploding suns" much harder to like.
But by comparison, DC has a ton of really super, super heroes. Superman is the benchmark for all superheroes, Marvel or DC. Flash has been stated to be faster than light, Green Lantern's power has been known to tear apart entire planets, and even Wonder Woman is a powerhouse force capable of crippling a small army by herself. Batman is ironically the most "Marvel"-like character in the group.
But both have their perks and flaws. In retrospect, given the DC's dimension jumping timeline (how many Infinite Crisis events have we had now?), and their heavy emphasis on superpowers, they actually might fit better in a similar world of thunder gods, cyromancers, and undead hellspawns.
However, my main point of contention remains: this is a fighting game, and there are more popular, more adept FIGHTERS in the Marvel universe than the DC one. God-like characters or not, if everyone was stripped clean of their powers, how many DC heroes would be able to defend themselves in a real fight? As much as I love Flash, he's not a fighter. As much as I adore Green Lantern, he doesn't know martial arts. By comparison, just off the top of my head, popular Marvel characters like Daredevil, Wolverine, Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Nick Fury, The Punisher, and even Iron Fist (well, especially Iron Fist) are very skilled martial artists in their own right and could handle themselves in nearly any fair fight even without superpowers or special gear.
Though, DC has plenty of fighters as well, and I'm gonna campaign hard to get decent DC fighters like Azrael, Bane, Nightwing, Karate Kid, Richard Dragon, Lady Shiva, Green Arrow, The Huntress, Black Canary, Batgirl, The Question, Mister Miracle, Hush, and Deathstroke into this game, "iconic" status be damned.

Now I could be wrong, but just reading this whole "back and forth" thing, It seems to me that DC fans are defending DC, and Marvel fans and defending Marvel. It's like wait, where did Mortal Kombat go? lol.
Well just to put this out there, I don't read any comics. The way I learned of both DC and Marvel characters where from watching cartoons and movies based on them. With that said I cannot say which characters are better or more powerful because I simply would'nt be able to back it up.
But based on my knowledge of these characters, I do lead towards the Marvel Universe more because they are alot cooler IMO. Don't get me wrong though I am a HUGE Batman fan too. Not so much Superman, because all that power to me seems pointless. And to think that his weakness is Kryptonite. You mean to tell me if I found Kryptonite I can kill Superman myself? No offense to you superman fans out there but that is the funniest shit. I mean he got his ass kicked by Lex Luther in Superman Returns (which is one of the major reasons I didn't really like the movie.)
My point is I am able to name way more marvel characters than DC characters, and I don't even read comic books. You do the math.
But this IS a Mortal Kombat game (my favorite series of all time) so if It's MK vs DC, we'll just have to see how it turns out.

I absolutely agree, marvel would of been 100 times better. DC is horrible and completely uncreative.
Superman vs. Lui Kang or Goro Vs. Omega Red
Batman vs. Johnny Cage or Venom Vs. Reptile
Marvel fits so much better. DC is using there lighter side characters which does not fit into the dark world of mortal kombat what-so-ever.
Lets not even say marvel, there are so many better options than DC. You know how sick it would of been if Spawn was in it Violator vs. Kintaro. Its a shame they had to use my most disliked franchise. And its a shame im goin to have to buy it cause I collect MK games.

You obviously don't know much about DC...then again most fans on here don't so I'm really not surprised.
Marvel wouldn't want their key characters "heads ripped off either" and I'd bet anything on that, you think they'd let Scorpion rip off Professor X or Storms head off? Don't think so....
This game will be way darker then MVC's cartoony look.
DC uncreative and horrible? ha, ha that was a good one. Most Ignorant, dumb and false post of the year right here dude. Congrats
I don't mind if someone prefers Marvel over DC but false nonsense like that is just hilarious to read because it's beyond BS. That's like saying a Mustang is faster then a Corvette because someone likes a Mustang more...simply NOT true.
What DC characters do you even know btw? Outside of Supes and Batman, amuse me please

you keep saying the same thing, no one cares about DC and if they are popular they are stupid and kiddy, we all know there is a darker side to DC blah blah. Stupid characters, my 5 year old nephew could of came up with the name "super-man" lol SUPER STRENGTH , FLYing ability woooo and everyother super power. Its cheesy stupid and doesnt fit into MK

Fun little fact, Marvel was inspired by....ohh yeah what was it again? DC ; )

Hi, Hot Stuff.
Now, I am not Marvel biased or anything because I don't like any Marvel titles other than X-Men. I could care less about Spidey, Hulk, the FF, or other top Marvel titles. I do like some DC characters however, like Zatanna, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quin, so I'm not closed to DC like some people here. I do have more respect for Marvel because its characters are human-like rather than god-like, but I am not biased. (I might be X-Men biased though).
Anyway, I just wanna clear up that just because Marvel was inspired by DC, it doesn't make DC the higher up. America came from Britain and which is the bigger, better country now? Not to say that Marvel is the America to "Britain DC," but you're making it sound like DC is better just because it got here first, which is not necessarily true.
I don't know which company is more successful, but I do know that the older one isn't better off-the-bat just for that.

I'm saying that because it's a valid point, where you keep saying shit like DC not creative, blah, blah...yet you're basing this on what knowledge? Pure ignorance or no logic? And the reason people are saying DC has lots of darkness to it is because they do, apparently people like you still don't know this or are ignorant to it, thus why DC can work vs. Mk.
You don't seem like a "stupid" person so I'm guessing you're just ignorant with DC here...
So, because of someones "name" you're hating on DC? wow...just curious man, how old are you?
If that's your "argument" then I guess I could say well "Magneto" is really original a dude that can control and manipulate "metal" wow....
Well, similar concept with Superman. Stop posting stuff that lacks credibility like "someones name" you don't like and post actual good reasons to dislike the idea really....
It's not cheesy or stupid, remember MVC? umm Hulk vs. Zangief because that makes all the sense in the world...please
