One of the biggest things that holds me as a veteran hardcore MK fan is the actual storylines for each of the games. I mean I love the stories almost as much as the actual fighting gameplay itself. They're dark, compelling, decepting, mythical, and just plain badass. I mean who doesnt enjoy stories with character such as these? Just curious to see if anyone else enjoys MK the same way as I do. To me MK:D isnt only going to be the next installment to the fighting game series, but also the next chapter to the MK plotline.

MK is the only fighting game I still play (Hey, I do have a job.) and the reason behind it is the storyline. Proof: When I should be working I'm writing fan fiction based on MK.

I agree. Storyline is a big part for me. Mortal Kombat has a real good storyline and some pretty deep characters, which is impressive for a video game which has only recently started doing FMV scenes. It's a shame the movies messed them up so bad.

I agree 110%. The gameplay is awesome, but honestly the story is what keeps me interested. MKDA was slightly lacking in story and lacking deeply in secrets.

Actually I find the MKDA story quite intreaging. It had lots of points that I never thought would happen. For example, I never thought Shang Tsung would finally succeed in killing Liu Kang, nor did I ever thought Shao Kahn would be "murdered".

I cant wait to see the outcome of the Deadly Alliance, and now with the emergence of the Dragon King, the story is only going to get deeper, better and most of all it will be full of Deception.

XiahouDun84- I agree with you about the MK movies... Mortal Kombat 1 was decent and enjoyable to watch, but they really fucked up with Annihilation. Shao Kahn was in his own words... pathetic.

I absolutely love the storyline. I dont know if i would even play mk if it didnt have it. I love character development, and i like info on what characters i play as and such. This also goes to other fighting games.

I, as others, is also curious as to what happened to shang and quan. I cant wait to see what happened to them and kahn, the suspense is killing me!grin

Shao Kahn was defeated, not murdered. That's all that we know about that so far.

I am a big fan of the MK storyline. When it comes to fighting games, i think that it is by far the best story behind the game.

I never did like the turn in storyline that MK4 took though. It was way off course, but without it we would never had MKDA story.

I like the character stories more than the actual game story.

Please no one believes Kahn to be alive or make a return more than me... which is why i put the quotes over the word murdered. Defeated, murdered, Kahn will return. Dont need anything to tell me that.

I love the storylines. I think it is probably the main reason Mortal Kombat has survived so long, the blood and guts, etc, is a bonus.

I definitely enjoy the storyline and hopefully the MKD plot will be more intricate and deeper than the MKDA plot. I WANT MORE!!! :D

I love the strong storyline that the MK series posseses. Most fighters I have played do not put any effort at all into the storyline. But not MK. The story is deep and very dark, along with having a good fighting system. Thats my opinion about the subject......

I really liked the plotline in mk1 and 2, 3 was ok and 4 just got weird. MKDA seems to be getting back on track. The storyline was one of the reasons that I really got into MK in the first place, not the fatalities!

I think a story is very important to a game, and I happen to like the MK storyline, even though it is not without flaws. It's just a really cool concept, with the elder gods, the banished Shinnok, the ninjas and stuff...

So yes, I do play MK for the gameplay AND to follow it's story...

The MK storyline is like the very foundation of the series. No other fighter has a story as deep, compeeling, mysterious or surprising as the MK storyline. It is littered with twists, shocks and unexpected happenings and the fact that anything can happen as it continues makes it the best!

The character development is amazing and combined with their looks and own individual stories, the game brings life to the story and we have our own unique world and worlds within the very series. Adding in the combination of relaism, mythology and sci-fi makes the MK storyline the best! It cannot be matched!

I agree 110%... I have seen no other fighter with such story development that it even rivals the gameplay itself.

Only Eternal Champions for sega Mega Drive and Sega CD has best story than MK. And eternal Champions is still one of my favorite fighting game along with Street Fighter 2 and Mortal kombat.

I dont know about Eternal Champions... The thing that captivates me about MK's story is the dark tone in which it is placed in. The fighters are one of a kind, each indvidual story somehow links to anothers, the concept and settings with realms... there aint noting like MK.

Yup, the MK stories do rock. Unlike most fighting games, there's an actual plot, not just individual purposes for the fighters.

Eternal Champions did have a good story (and I'd love to see a modern version of it), but it was pretty much just the individuals trying to get their lives back, not a real plot.

Rival Schools and Dead or Alive both have decent plots. They're the closest to MK, I suppose, but neither of them are close to as detailed or interesting.

the reason i like MK so much more than anything else is BECAUSE OF the plots. the intrigue and mystery of the plots was what kept me coming back to mortal kombat each new chapter as a child. everything about mk is perfect, the mystique of the backgrounds/music, the characters, the fatalities. No form of media, whether it be a movie, a television program or indeed a video game will ever come close to being as wicked-awesome as MK2 is.

I definately love mortal kombat because of the plots. They are very dark, and mysterious and you dont know what to expect. They make you feel sorry for "fictional" characters. I personally like mortal kombat because of kitana. Ever since mk2 i thought her story line was very Intriguing. So she became my favorite character and wanted to know more about her character. So yeah storylines make this game what it is also.
