I think that MKDA has more interesting New Comers, like Li Mei, Frost, Nitara, Mavado and Kenshi.
MK4 has the worst, only Quan Chi is good. Tanya is terrible.
I still dont play the game, but the only new character that I like is Ashrah. The others are strange.
The MK Team make more interesting characters in MK 2 and 3. The proof is the return of many of both games.

The point of this is that even if old characters return, That doesn't mean that they'll be a great addition, Though it is awesome to see a friendly face, lol. New characters are pivitol to any series, And i personally prefer a robust slew of new characters in hopes of gaining new favorites, As long as my favorite old ones return. People like Shao Kahn or Quan Chi wouldn't have become popular if they were never introduced in later installments, And i believe they hit the nail on the head with a few of the new characters in Deception.

New characters are importaint to a point but they have to be GOOD characters. I fear I cant take GraveDigger's list as scientific prof for it though Mostly because he was so generous with his ratings. Lots of the people marked good-great I would have marked sucks-ass. Jax was never cool. I'm not going to hate on your list too much I'm sure you put plenty of effort into it and you are allowed to like whoever you want.
The point is after you have soooo many people you cant always have your friendly faces. Maybe a few people get what they want but many others may only get a cast they hate.
Ok that wasn't the point. The REAL point is I personaly don't like any of the new people. MK:DA had several new characters that were good. Then you have say Li Mei who I didn't like but do in this game. They made me want to use the new people on the last game but this one we have Kobra. the love child of Jonny Cage and Ken Masters with a disturbing obsession with GiJoe. And yah we had Mokap in MK:DA but now we have Ashrah a bee keeper dressed in white that looks like she is ready to take a dump when you first see her. I read her story before I saw her and was looking forward to her. Boy was I dissapointed. We also have a chaos worshiping corpse that more or less looks OK but was given the most uncreative name they could think up. We have several others that I find so bland and tastless I can hardly remember there names seeing as I cant care enough one way or the other for. Its like we got a whole cast of stykers at once.
Mean while Sheeva lays face down in a konquest hut. Rain is troting around getting jumped by Jade for being stupid. Shao Kahn is dead. Frost is most likely dead. Jujin is reading books. ect...
Anyway that being said I still like most of the characters and what have been done with most of them(Ermac is cool as hell) Its the best MK and fixed everything I disliked about MK:DA keeping everything I loved. I just wish I could swap new guys with MK:DA . That way I could have Nitira,forst, Mavado, and leave the loosers behind in a game that I know I never play as long as I have this one.
The one great thing about haveing sucky characters in MK that make it OK is you always get to kill them off in the end. I'll never get tired of killing off Jax. NEVER.

Agreed. I'm a fan of the NEW Black Dragon except for Kobra.
Kira's my favorite and primary character in Deception.
I also like Hotaru from what little I've played with him- he's really powerful. Can't agree with Darrius yet though, only played with him a few times and wasn't fond of him at all.
So besides his lame taunts;; Havik and Kira are the only two I'm really glad made an introduction. But I've still got a lot of arcade to play for endings and character experience- as all my time to date has been in Konquest/Chess Kombat and unlocking Black Dragon endings.

I dunno. I pretty much like much of the new cast. I love Kira, Kobra, Ashrah and Shujinko, and think Darrius and Hotaru are pretty cool. The only ones that kinda leave me cold are Havik and Dairou.

My roster ratings:
Ashrah - Great fighter, interesting character, unique look. Awesome.
Baraka - Great, as always. Classic favorite, easy to use.
Bo' Rai Cho - Good fighter, fairly easy to use, but a horrible character.
Dairou - A little stale.
Darrius - His look is tonally off, nice story/character, easy to use.
Ermac - Unique fighter, great look, great feel.
Havik - Highly unique, easy to use, great look and story.
Hotaru - Looks great, his story good, fighting is pretty bland.
Jade - Awesome look for the classic character, great fighter.
Kabal - Stale fighter. His look was well convieved but pooly executed. Story is OK.
Kenshi - Cool, as always. Great fighter, his look is too similar than his old one.
Kira - Awesome look! Fighting is challenging but a little dull, cool character
Kobra - Bad. Sonya and Johnny Cage's lovechild. Can we say filler character?
Li Mei - Vastly improved. Good story, great fighter. Always a great look.
Liu Kang - Ultimate fan pleaser! Very unique and stylized, great story and feel.
Mileena - Kickass! She looks awesome and fights just as well.
Nightwolf - A little boring, but fights nicely.
Noob-Smoke - Interesting take on old characters, but too few moves.
Raiden - Interesting new look, good combat, but I wish they didn't keep his fighting styles exactly the same.
Scorpion - A little worn thin in my opinion, but still classic and excelletly done.
Shujinko - Interesting look, but I don't like the way he fights. Konquest makes him interesting, though.
Sindel - My personal favorite. Love her look, and she fights like an evil bitch.
Sub-Zero - Great! Love his new look! He fights expertly, and his new story intrigues me.
Tanya - I like her look, and she's a quick fighter, and a evil conniving bitch. I love her shoes.

Some of the new characters are really good, others are really bad. New characters really haven't been good as a whole since MK2 though. Now granted I've been a Tanya fan ever since MK4, I just don't think most new characters are very good, with only a few exceptions (Sektor, Fujin, etc). With such a large cast now, I think the team should start focuses on largely classic casts. MKD has nearly a perfect cast, but adding in a few new classics and removing some of the new woulda been good i think. New characters are good, they keep the game fresh and interesting, but only if the characters themselves are interesting. I really dont think Havik, Darrius, Kobra, or shujinko were necesary. Kira should have her own moves, but other than that, Kira hotaru and Ashrah are pretty good designs. Basically, what i'm trying to say is that no, i'm not overly happy with the new cast and i would've preferred a couple more familiar faces. If the mk team can't come up with 8 solid, good new warriors, don't put in 4 cool ones and 4 crap ones. Put in the good ones that you got and fill the rest of the cast with favorites and underused characters that can be made great (Tanya, Jade, etc)
However, in regards to some characters that people wanna see return. We shouldn't forget that Sheeva and Rain are two of the most uninspiring and boring characters ever. Should they return? yeah, why not lets see what they can do with them. But i wouldn't complain about getting new, bad charactersand then say i want to see frost and rain in a game. That would be like me complaining in the MKDA days that Hsu Hao was taking the spot Tanya should've had.

They suck. Period. It's like they sat around drinking heavily, I might add, and decided, "hey, it'd be cool if we'd, like, you know, add two more realms that are the definition of mediocre. One'll be like, totally chaotic, and anti-rules, while the other one will be rule based and strict! lol, get it!" "Cool idea, man. But now we have to come up with a bunch of generic, lame fighters to give meaning to these lame, generic realms! *hic!*" "I completely agree. After I pass out, I'll get right on it!!!!!"
OK, so that maybe not like that, but come on--the stories and new realms suck. The endings usually suck, too. It's just.... *sigh* I love Liu being back, which is the only reason I borrowed my friend's copy (I still don't own it, though likely will go ahead and buy it, soon.) and played it til now. It's just.... not like I thought it would be. The new guys are bringin' it down.

I think Havik is pretty damn kool, and at first I hated kobra but his heart rip made up for his lameness, but still Bo'Rai Cho remains my fav!

I thought Frost looked awesome, but I just hated her story. I think that was way to cliche and they didn't need a female Sub-Zero. In fact, they needed nothing to copy the greatest mortal kombat character ever, Sub-Zero.
I'll rate all the new comers since DA.
Frost was terrible in everything except for looks. 3/10
Now, I like Bo' Rai Cho, he's a comic relief, and he brings something new to mortal kombat, which if very hard to do. 9/10
I really like Ashrah, I think a cleansed demon is a cool idea. 8/10
Kira, she's hot, but again I would have liked her more if she had her own set of moves. 4/ 10
Hotaru, he just got on my nerves, I hated his styles and his attitude. His appearence was ok, nothing special. 4/ 10
Movado, can anyone matrix? He doesn't fit with Mortal Kombat at all. 2/10
Nitara, I really liked her, Vampire, Dragon Wings, nice theme. 8/10
Kenshi, absolutly awesome character! I love his outfit, and his style that works with his handicap. 10/10

Dhramin, who can stand a mortal kombat fighter that constantly has bugs flying around him!? 2/10
Hsu Hao, terrible design, moves don't fit him, terrible name, idiotic. 1/10
Darrius, Jax rip off, his second outfit makes him look like he belongs at a disco. 1/10
Dariou, reminds me of Nightwolf, only...gayer. He's an assassin, but doesn't look like one at all. 4/10
Havik, I love this guys fighting style. His leg rip fatality kicks ass! 8/10

I would have to agree with a lot of you in saying that the new characters suck. Its like the design team didnt put any effort into it. I guess they were running outta ideas and just threw a bunch of shit together or something. Talking about the characters reminds me of The Living Forest. I mean wtf? I actually liked the whole idea of the trees with faces that move and groan and all that cool shit but in Deception they do nothing. I was hoping maybe I'd might see reptile peeking out from behind a tree or something cool like that but instead we got an orginal concept that was cool and now it sucks ass. What a shame. Now back to the characters. Darrius is a joke. He's outfit sucks ass and so does his alt. He's looks like Jax's disco dancing brother. Arm Rip Fatality total rip off of Jax I might add. I like the new look of all the Ninjas and I'm glad they brought back Baraka, Kabal, and some of the old characters. New characters are rather tricky because you dont know how the fans are gonna adjust. Bo Rai Cho is kinda different in that he provides comic relief. But I hate his character. A fat drunken ass. Now thats orginal. Shujinko is ok. In my opinion he resembles Pei Mei from Kill Bill Volume 2, but he's average. I could go on and on but im tired of criticizing.

I enjoy all the new characters actually. Hotaru being my favorite, even though I wish he had more special moves. Why is it that people insist that characters die for good in MK?

And, Havik, is, in my opinion, the coolest newcomer ever. I just hate Hotaru to death, and some of the other characters are just plain lame.
Sometimes it;s good not to bring a character back. I mean, after seeing Zombie Liu Kang kill Scorpion, I was severley upset about where this series was going.

Kira and Havik are cool. Darrius is decent. Hotaru could be awesome if they'd give him some combos lol. Reset of the new comers I don't careless about. But if they brought anybody back I'd say keep all the returning people that are in this one and ass Reiko, Stryker, and Mavado.

Wow!!! I can't believe that you guys don't like the new characters. Maybe it's just me but I think a game would get a little stale if all you get in every new itteration were the same old characters with a few inhancements. Virtua Fighter and Dead od Alive come to mind when I think about it. Though they are good games the characters have gotten a little stale. They introduce about two to three new characters and thats it.
At least with new characters in the game they force the older characters to be played in new ways in order to defeat them. To me it makes me appreciate a game that much more. You have to understand that not everyone can be satisfied when it comes to a new version of a fighting games roster. You will always have the Fan favorite camp and the New Blood fans. So in order for the devolper to satisfy both camps sacrifices must be made. The funny thing about this is that I can clearly see that in the future the same cries will be made for the return of the new characters of this game that you make out to be a wast of memory space.
On a side note, you may change your tune about Kobra when you play someone that knows what his true strengths are. I played someone 3 days ago who was virtually unstoppable so I now use Kobra and find that I can win 95% of my games with other challengers. I had lost 34 to 4 against that guys Kobra, but after learning him I won 29 games in a row. I encourge you all to try the new characters first before you knock 'em.

3. Nightwolf ( if he doesnt die for good then dont kill him take out tae Kwon do)

Havik ( omg he sucks ass everybody says he is good, he has snake and tang soo doo the best damn fighting styles in MKDA and they arent meant to branch with each other and he sucks as with them) he has a story great ending, great weapon great special moves which are original, give him two different fighting styles ORIGINAL ones and he should be a 5 outta 5.
5. Reiko looks like he would be a fast fighter and have good moves he will be another jade i know it fast and good and his story seems good too.
6.Mavado can be good but change his weapon thats why nobody liked him cause they compared him to kabal.
The only problem i have bout this game is GERNERICNESS
Dairou has the best fighting style ever escrima and he sucks ass with it and it doesnt branch right.
Nightwolf has Tae Kwon do sonya doesnt need her fighting styles changed she was perfect the way she was in MKDA, HIS tae kwon do sucks ass.
Kobra has a good look and good story and uses the kali sticks good and is original, i onlylike him when i play in his alternate outfit his first outfit bothers me for some reason do the same as me and u should like him.
the only problem i have is Tae Kwon do, escrima, tang soo doo,and snake.
Quan chi ,sonya and shang tsung had perfect fighting styles and didnt need to be changed there fighting styles are in this game but they SUCK ASS, what a waste of good fighting styles that is WHAT BOTHERS me the MOST, if dairou had his own second fighting style original and havik had two own fighting styles he would kick ass.
now, kill off dairou, and give quan chi his fighting styles back sonya her fighting styles back, give sonya a new weapon, give mavado a new weapon, give havik new fighting styles and everything should be good again.

Reptile is one of the original ninjas he should be one of the best in the game, and hung gar sucks ass, but with BARAKA hung gar is one of the best fighting styles. It depends what u branch something with or who you give it too that makes it badass and every fighting style does kick ass.
dammit i like havik alot but playing as him hell no change his damn fighting styles they were way better with the deadly alliance and OMG KILL DAIROU ima say it again KILL DARIOU you cut him from MKDA you should have cut him again or never made his ass.

I haven’t played the game, so I wont judge, but so far only this 2 don’t have my attention:
Kira: She looks amazing, original, but her character concept overall is fucked! She is a fucking clone. She looks like the last character they did, all fast and messy.
Darrius: Well, he reminds me of Jax .WAY too much. Not that I hate or dislike Jax, but his look could had been more different.

I could have done without Dairou everyone else new is pretty cool, I like Kobra even though he is just a cross of Sonya and Johnny cage. As for returner characters, I never liked Tanya or Bo Rai Cho, I would have rather had Sector, and Smoke seperete from Noob. I hate how they only have one fighting style each. But for the most part I'm pretty happy because Baraka, Ermac, Kabal, Jade, Maleena, Liu Kang, Raiden, Noob and Smoke are all in it, so if you ask me they did a pretty good job of bringing back fav's. The only other thing I have a problem with is that Sub-Zero looks axactly like the Shredder from Ninja Turtles.
