Many of you will disagree I'm sure, but I have this theory that the Dragon King is NOT the final boss.

First, why would they show the final boss soooo early? Doesn't make much sense on Midway's part, why did they need to show in game action of him?
Just seems kinda odd, that's all. Remember they showed Moloch (sub-boss) long before MKDA was released.

Next, the DK is on the cover right? So logicaly he must be the last boss. Well think back to EVERY box cover there has been for MK games, and tell me how many times the final boss has appeared. I do remember that Goro (sub-boss) was on the cover of MK4 though...

In the 1st trailer it says, "A sinister force hides in the shadows, obsessed on dominating every realm. Using the trust and loyalty of an ally, to take it all through deception."
Well they've shown him already, that's hardly 'hiding in the shadows.' Plus Midway can't be dumb enough not to know how much more intimidating the DK (and his stage) would have been if we hadn't seen him and just fought our way to him fo the first time.

This is a DIRECT quote from Ed Boon in April:

"Well, the Dragon King is the big bizarre -- he's our Goro, he's our Motaro. He's going to play a huge part of the story. In the opening FMV, you're going to see everything...He's got a really cool background when you fight him."

-Interpret that any way you want.

Finaly, the game is called Mortal Kombat Deception, what bigger Deception is there than making everyone believe he is the final boss, then surprising everyone when the game is released!

Agree or not?

If the Dragon King weren't the final boss then it would have to mean some greater power is ou there. Some power greater than him. After all the hype they built up around him ad the whole legend of him and his army, it would be disappointing to see him in a role other than the 'boss' of the game.

You raise a good point and it's a well observed one! Good thread, man!

The original poster put it in a very excellent way, now I dont want the dragon king to be the final boss, that would be a great deception to learn he is working for a higher power. I wonder who it is if this theory is true.

You make some excellent points there. Didn't Boon say somewhere that the DK was "the main aggressor in Deception"? I'm not disagreeing with your theory at all. In fact you may be on to something. We should all try to go back and look for quotes from Boon, or the development team on the DK. We may have more deception at hand that what seems.

From the Interview of MKOnline to Ed Boon:

"]0MBAT: Question #3 comes from Jared Ferris from Quebec. He writes, "Yo Ed, I'm curious about the mid-boss that will appear in the new game Mortal Kombat: Deception. So far it's been said that the Dragon King will be the final boss, and he'dd be equivalent to Goro, Kintaro, Motaro from previous games. But will there still be a real mid-boss, one that is not intially playable?"

Ed Boon: Uh, yes, actually the mid-boss character in Deception is one of the few . It's gonna be, uh, one of the hottest characters we've had in Mortal Kombat, and will end up being a character you can play as, and our plan right now is to have the Dragon King as the last boss character."

The DK is the Final Boss, no one SINGLE power can be superior than the DK...

That would totally suck it that happened. I think you are way off base on that assumption though. What are your reasons for thinking that? Just curious.

but it does say the sub- boss will be playable, they could not make the dragon king playable. so mayb lui is the sub-boss,he could of been resurected buy the dragon king and turned evil. that could also be the deception

Uh, why not? It is totally possible that the DK could be playable. It's completely up to the MK team, but it is possible.

Maybe, just maybe, the being we think is the dragon king, isnt the dragon king.

I might be wrong but has anybody said that that thing was the DK, maybe we all just speculated. Maybe that is reptile and the DK hasnt been revealed yet.

hmmm (im so wrong)

I agree. The sub-boss, and the boss should not be playable. It just takes something away from them if you can play as them. That is just my opinion though. The one thing I didn't like about DA was the fact that the bosses (Quan-Chi, and Shang Tsung) were playable.

Ok, let me try and piece it together:

The evil eyes in the trailers are Baraka? Yes.

The person being referred to in the trailer (A sinister force hides in the shadows, obsessed on dominating every realm. Using the trust and loyalty of an ally, to take it all through deception) is Baraka? Possibly. Either him or Mileena.

Does that make him/her the end boss? No. The only thing it does is give you a glimpse of how they will betray the Dragon King if they BEAT him.

The Dragon King is the end boss. 100%

Cool, my letter was quoted from, as well as Ed Boon's response to it! grin

Anyway, as good a theory as it is, I doubt that he isn't the final boss in this game.

So, can we deduct that we'll see DK in MK7 too?
