Ashrah

Ashrah is one of the newer character. She made her appearence in Deception and is an interesting character. At first I wasn't too interested in her. But when I began playing Konquest and I learned a little bit about Ashrah she became very interesting. Her story is one of the better plots in MK. This thread is to discuss the fate of MK's own little demon slayer, Ashrah.

Story

Ashrah's story begins after she refused to carry out one of Quan Chi's orders. What this order was and why she disobeyed is unkown but it was the start of her plot. So Quan Chi sent her 'sisters' to deal with her. On the run from the Brotherhood of Shadow, Ashrah found a sword. One that appeared to be of heavenly-origin. She killed her assasins with this weapon and found a new sensation. With each demon she eradicated, her presence in the Netherealm became more and more unstable. Shao Kahn did not like this.
He had recieved word that a demon in the Netherealm was slaying some of his best warriors in an attempt to free herself from damnation. Kahn sent the warrior Ermac to find and stop her. What happened in the battle between Ermac and Ashrah is unclear. Ermac most likely retreated because he did not kill Ashrah, nor she him.
Ashrah's presence in the Netherealm was growing more and more unstable but she grew tired of facing of against oni after oni. They're lives where very slowly granting her ascendence but she could not wait much longer. She learned of the demon known as Noob-Saibot. A terrible evil in the Netherealm. Ashrah geussed that by slaying him, she would finally be expelled from the Netherealm, forever.

I am Ashrah. I was once like the others--before I found out the means to purge myself of the evil taint that permeates all who reside here. By slaying demons with an enchanted sword, I will gradually transform into a being whom this realm cannot contain. Eventually I will be free.

In her Deception ending, Ashrah first destroyed Smoke. She felt a twinge of pity for the cyborg, a very un-demon-like emotion, she knew there was some good left in him. But Noob Saibot would have to face Ashrah alone. Ashrah could sense great evil in Noob Saibot. He had earned his place in the Netherealm and desired to remain there. But Ashrah defeated him and as such earned her freedom from the realm. She was expelled from the Netherealm but the holy sword that made it possible did not travel with her. It remained in the Netherealm.

This ending however is not canon as both Smoke and Noob Saibot are alive in Armageddon.

Possible Future

If her ending in Deception is true then it is, I would imagine, safe to assume she is still in the Netherealm, trying to find Noob Saibot. Ashrah killing Noob Saibot would be great from my point of view but many still love the original Sub-Zero. I personally think it's time for him to die. But I'm sure there are many who disagree. However, back to Ashrah, she should live on and continue as a force of good in the next generation Mortal Kombat. After purifying her soul she is not going to go back to evil. She's a force of light from now on. Ashrah worked alone in Deception and it worked really well. She needn't ally with any particular side but I imagine her to be a sole, good warrior.
Perhaps she could take refuge in Seido now she has escaped from the Netherealm. Either there or Earth or Edenia. We'll have to wait and see. All I can say is that Ashrah was the Nitara of Deception. She was the sole woman doing her own thing and having one of the most detailed and greatest plots of her game. If Ashrah is killed off in Armageddon after all her hard work there shall be slaps.

Design

Ashrah's outfits are both white with gold symbolising her purity. It is this look I want to return. Her primary in Deception covered more skin than any outfit in MK other than Sonya's MKDA alternate. She looked great wearing this and very unique. It was a nice change seeing a female fighter not in a leotard. Her alt is just as attractive and yet more revealing. This look is also one of my favourites of all time. When Ashrah returns, I hope she has white and gold outfits that can top these two. But not in Armageddon. In Armageddon, she should keep her Deception outfits.

Fighting Styles

If Ashrah escaped the Netherealm then surely she lost the Kriss sword. Which would leave her with Ba Gua and Chou Jiao, two excellent styles. However, if she did not escape from hell then the Kriss is still in her posession. Which if Ba Gua and Chou Jiao should she keep?
Well I hope she lost the Kriss. As fun and fast and cool as it was, I preferred fighting with her unarmed.

So, with that, we can now discuss Ashrah.

Ashrah is hot.
yes...... yes she is. Not as hot as sareena's going to be though.

I like Ashrah, and I see potential for her to be in the next-gen MK games as a strong force for good. I think it would've been better if they had more appearance time with her for this generation's games, but eh, that's the MK team for you...

I see her story in MKA mainly involving Noob Saibot. She could help Sub-Zero take him down or something. I'd also like to see her interact with Sareena, and I have the same curiousities as you do with that orders that Quan Chi gave her and if her and Sareena are sisters. If they were to have continued on instead of wrapping things up, perhaps we could even have interaction between her and Ermac. The two haven't seen each other in many years and since Ermac has changed for the better, what will Ashrah think of that? Then again, I'd also like to see Ermac in the next-gen MK games so perhaps the two can see each other during those games.

She has a unique look to her even though some see her as a Raiden rip-off with the hat. However, I find that to be illogical since they don't wear the same kind of hat. I'd like to see her with a better voice as I didn't like the way it was in MKD.

For her fighting styles, I'd imagine she'd still have the Kriss so I think her other style should be Ba Gua due to its circular, spiraling movements that would go well with her spiraling moves and all. I actually think Chou Jiao should go to Sareena.

Anyway, good thread Keith.

If you actaully read the original post, then maybe you'd know what the thread is really about. Discussing Ashrah. If you could make a better thread, then do it. If not, don't diss good threads, especially Keith's. Okay, now shut up.

Ashrah is by far my most favorite new character in MKD. She has amazing potential to go far into the future of Mortal Kombat. I am wondering the same thing, if she is still stuck in the Netherealm. There's a 99.9% chance that she is. It's garunteed she didn't kill Smoke or Noob Saibot, so unless she has been slaughtering much more demons between MKD and MKA, then she's still there. And I rather she be. There's not much for her to do outside of the Netherealm for her, is there? I mean, all of her conflicts are located within that realm. Why is she so bent on killing Noob Saibot, by the way? He can't be her only way out of Hell. Did something happen in the past between them while they were still part of the Brotherhood? Some deeper connection? A possibility there. I doubt she'll end up killing him though, but it would be neat to have a final showdown in the Netherealm with Sub-Zero, Sareena, and Ashrah vs. Noob Saibot, Frost, and Smoke. Now that would be some climatic shit. All three of them are wraiths now, so if she kills anyone of them, then she still has a chance to be free. Even Smoke, who is a cyber-demon. Speaking of Sareena, Ashrah might have a bond with her. They were once both sisters of the Brotherhood. Maybe they were good friends at once, or maybe Sareena was one of the assassins sent to kill the rogue demon? If that is so, why did they let each other live? A strong fued might be possible between these two, but maybe Ashrah would see that Sareena has also changed her ways and set aside differences. While still on the subject of the Brotherhood, Shinnok is back in action, but for what nobody knows yet. There is a chance they could meet with each other somewhere. Would Shinnok remember her deception? If so, he'd probably be more than pissed off that she betrayed him and killed half his followers. And Quan Chi, though I'm sure he wouldn't care too much about her, might even half some interaction with her. One more person still that could know Ashrah - Reiko. Speculation states that he was once also a part of the Brotherhood. Basically that is all we know. Reiko still may be siding with Shinnok or he may have his own agenda (with Kahn, presumed). Maybe they also have a past. Beyond MKA, however, I'd like Ashrah to continue ascending in her lightness. I'd think it would be awesome that she would go to the Heavens and may even possibly become an angel. Is that too much to ask? A complete turn around is great for her, a former demon now turned angel and protector of the realms. Who knows, that's just what I'd like to see from her. And if she had to choose a realm for her to reside in, I'd say Edenia, cause it's pure and light, just like Ashrah.

For costuming, her look is great now. The white and gold is really nice. As she progresses, and if something happens like I said about her ascending to the Heavens, then I'd want her to look even more Holy. Something like the look of Angel from Tekken is what I imagine. Anyways, for MKA both her outfits right now fit perfectly and there is no need to change anything right now.

For styles, I agree. If she starts to help Sareena and mentor her, I feel she should present the Kriss to her. It would help her change from the horrid demon that she is now into something better. Although I wasn't too big a fan of Pa Gua, I do like her other style. Hand to hand just suits her character better.

Great thread man.

At first I thought of Ashrahs look as simple and uninspired, but after reading and getting info on her story and bios, etc, it became very evident why they chose those outfits for her, and how very cool they made her look/“feel”.

Ashrah has one of the best storylines imo, its intriguing, its interesting, and it has potential to evolve into so many different directions.

So far we know she is connected to Quan Chi, has a mission against Noob Saibot which will somehow tie her (just a bit maybe) with Smoke. Now the real question is: was/is Sareena one of the sisters that was sent to kill Ashrah? Could Ashrah had been the fourth of the known 3 demon team known as “Quan Chis assasins?”

I think that would be a superb twist that will add interest not only to Ashrah, but to Sareena and probably to Quan Chi too. Poor sorcerer, it seems many people hate him nowdays.

Anyway, Ashrah was an excellent addition (perfect actually), she was really something new, an excellent story can be developed for these 2 unexplored girls. The whole sword purifying thing was amazing, it was original and new, too bad her story was limited though. I loved how she was a demon trying to be good.....but, was she actually just trying to escape without caring to change her real intentions?

Sareena should also help expand her role. I think she can be the key to Sub-Zeros destruction or success. I think she has potential, she (like anyone) can be developed to become something great. Now, if Ashrah gets involved with Sareena in the end, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Sareenas role is limited, the problem with MKA is that they are trying to bring closure to so many stories when so many wholes have been left unexplored.

Sareena should have her story with the brotherhood of the shadow most then anything, but in the end, whatever side she is in (storywise, Lin Kuei, Shadow, Tekunin, Red/black dragons, Quan Chi/Ashrah, alone, etc), I think she will do great, and having her involved deeply with Ashrah might be a better option then the rest. Who knows.

Ashrah is another character I think we will see in the future games, there is still much much to see from her.

Great post again man.

Nice thread, man. I'll add it to my sticky.

Ashrah is my favourite of the MKD newcomers and my best character to use overall on the game.

I love everything about her. She exhibits great agility and power whilst looking beautiful and elegant and she's also very graceful. Her alt costume and her combos pretty much show this off.

I like her story and how original they made it. I do hope that they bring it to a satisfying end. Given that Noob will possibly be connected with so many charactes, her involvement wiht him may be minor but since they did play it up in her story, perhaps they'll have a showdown. If this happens, I actually don't think Ashrah will win. I see them having her defeated and Noob defeated by someone else like Sub-Zero.

The story of her sword is also brilliant and I love how she is a demon trying to better herself and become good and pure. In a sense, Sareena is on the same path, though ashrah has the better chance of doing this.

She should definitely have her ties with Quan Chi explored more to bring a bit more of her past to light and perhaps a possibly link to Sareena could be explored. Given Noob, she can also be involved with Smoke and perhaps could try and free him. She could also ally with Sub-Zero perhaps and spark a feud maybe with Sareena here. Sareena could possibly learn about the sword Ashrah has and seek to steal it so she can purify herself.

Sub-Zero_7th's idea of including Ermac is great too and that would be a nice surprise. Shujinko could also be involved here too.

She should keep her best stance, Chou Jaio and the Kriss as her weapon. Ba Gua is good, but not all that great. Chou Jaio is far superior.

I hope she survives and returns in furture games. She has been a breathe of fresh air as far as I'm concerned.

I like Ashrah. She has a good story and I liked using her in Deception. She has a good appearence that sets her apart from the other females. If I could change anything, I'd make her primary look a little sleaker and more elegent. IMO, it looks like she's wearing pajammas. Aside from that, I think she looks good.

I think the strongest part of Ashrah's story is going to be her interaction with Sareena.
Do they have any history together, seeing as they are both Demons who were both assassins for Quan Chi. Did they know each other? According to Ashrah's bios, after she turned on Quan Chi he sent her sisters to kill her. Was Sareena among these sisters? However, according to her bios, Ashrah killed all the assassins Quan Chi sent, including her sisters. If Sareena was sent, how did she survive? Did Ashrah spare her life? Did Sareena simply let Ashrah go? Was Ashrah turning against Quan Chi one of the things that led to Sareena turning against him or vice versa?
Now if they somehow don't know each other or never met, then you have the potential for an interesting fight. Here comes Ashrah storming in with her magic sword and finds Sareena, an escaped Demon, former Quan Chi assassin, and a connection to Noob Saibot. There are lots of possible responses Ashrah can have, but I think we all know what the fun one would be: she'll want to kill her.

I do think one way or another Ashrah will end up wanting to help Sareena though. She'll see a relection in Sareena and make it her mission to help her and make sure she doesn't turn to the dark path. As Legacy said...sort of mentor or older sister role for her.
If you want to get deeper: going back to Ashrah's MK:D bios where she explains that she was forced to kill her own sisters. Wouldn't she have attempted to convince them to join? She probably did, but they didn't listen and she was forced to kill them. So for Ashrah, helping Sareena becomes personal. She doesn't want to fail Sareena like she failed her sisters.

There's still Noob Saibot as well. Since I imagine she'll still be on the hunt for Noob which will probable lead to her involvement with Sareena and maybe an alliance with Sub-Zero. I don't see Ashrah being the one to kill Noob though. I suspect Sub-Zero or possibly Scorpion will do that. I do think Ashrah will earn her assencion though. I'm guessing by killing Moloch probably.

I'd like to see Ashrah return in the next gen games. Even after earning her assencion, she decides to continue using her skills to destroy evil...even though she woulnd't have the Kriss anymore. She could keep helping Sareena...who should also make it into the next gen...and where she goes from there I guess would depend on where the overall story goes.

Maybe she'll become crazed and kill herself because she believes she is tainted from all the demons' blood she's had on her hands. I can only hope that will happen. She's one of those characters I hate just because of her appearance. She looks like a fuckin.....fuckin....I don't know, but I hate it, whatever she looks like.

I really like Ashrah. She is my favorite new character. In a first view, she is just a demon huntress trying to kill Noob to escape from the Netherrealm but she has much more to offer.

Her backgrond storyline is a little obscure. We just know that she turned against Quan Chi and he sent one of her sisters to slay her. But it's not well explain why she did it and what kind of command the sorcerer give to her to make her questione it. Maybe this is somehow related with Shinnok.

Then Quan Chi sent someone to kill her. But she was able to escape. Does Quan Chi know that Ashrah is still alive? He doen't seem to be the kind of person who forget a betray so easy. I wrote a theory based on this in Sareena's thread. Anyway, around this time she find the Kriss, a weapon that can free her from the Netherrealm.

The next information we have about Ashrah is her appearence in MKD konquest. Here she trains Shujinko and has a feud with Ermac. Ermac is another personal favorite and I'd like to see connected with Ashrah again. Well, they were enemies long time ago, when Ermac used to work for Shao Kahn but now they are in the same side. I think a good story can be developed here.

In this point, her storyline has a big gap. We saw her chasing Ermac and then, she is trying to slay Noob Saibot. But the Elder Sub-Zero maybe hadn't even born when Ashrah and Ermac had their fight. We don't know what happened with them. Did Ermac run away and Ashrah spent all that time searching for him? And since when she is aware of Noob Saibot? MKII? MKG? MKD?

Maybe most of this questions (or all of them) will stay without ansewers. Personally, I don't think Noob should be her main focus in MKA. It would be more or less what she did in MKD. I'd prefer to see her past being more explored instead.

As an Ashrah fan, of course I want to see her surviving MKA and being in the next generation. After ascending from Netherralm, in which realm she would live? Outworld and Chaosrealm don't seem to be much better the the Netherrealm. Orderrealm and (maybe) Zaterra also don't seem to be the kind of place she is looking for. So, It will probably be Edenia or Earthrealm. Earthrealm will probably be scene of all kind of threat in the next games, if she picks this realm, she will probably be one of the warriors fightinhg for it. If she chooses Edenia, she could be part of the edenian army where she can have connections with Jade and Kitana (and much work since Edenia is always in danger).

If she does at least half of what she can do in MKA will be enough.
