MKOJaded on MK:D-Online

Someone posted a thread here the other day asking if MK:D would be banned in the UK (sorry, I couldn't find the original post). The whole story behind this is that some kid killed another kid. So of course, instead of parents taking the responsibility for what their son did, video games are being blamed. More specifically, the game in question is Manhunt.

The game has pretty much been pulled from the shelves over there, as I understand. And things just got worse. The victim's mother has contacted and hired US attorney Jack Thompson.

For those of you who do not know who he is, he has sued such people as 2 live crew, Howard Stern, and has protested against game companies before in an attempt to rid the world of anything violent or degrading in nature. In an interview he clearly states that it is his ultimate goal to "Destroy Rockstar".

With that said, it seems the UK is getting pretty up in arms over this. If the game is released in the UK at all after this, you better get it fast because it won't be around for long, that much I will guarentee.

For those interested in the interviews they are here

http://biz.gamedaily.com/features_new/jack_thompson/

And here

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/536/536062p1.html

I already sent my long winded E-mail to the goof. If people are interested in it I may post it on the general board, along with these interviews. That would be the better place for it, but I figured I would post here first as the original question was about MK:D being banned in the UK.

Video games don't kill people. Video games give you something to do instead of killing people; killing virtual people. It's just as satisfying and not as illegal.

Hell yeah people of the UK better be quick because this guy does not play around. I think Rockstar is in for it. And any other game that comes out after it. MKD will be on the chopping block sure enough. And I am sure other games like doom RE4 and Metal gear3 will catch some heat. Lets just hope that no little kids get crazy over here in the us for two more months. I would hate to wait this long just to not get it at all. DSB

People who go after video game and movie companies because their kids are retarded and they're bad parents should have their kids taken away and their reproductive organs removed.
Also, they should be smacked on the head with a hammer *pulls out a calculator* 24,601 times.

Not only was Manhunt banned here, but people who now bring the game into this country get one year prison sentances. I was never a violent person before, no matter how many bloodthirsty videogames i played. Now however, i really feel from the pit of my gut, that it is my duty to walk to the doorstep of my government, and detonate some high power explosives.
Die New Zealand.
I fucking hate you.

This is ridiculous. If they ban MKD here I'll be really pissed off. The fact that they're blaming a game shows that they don't want to take responsibility for their own actions. They have to find something else to blame and then ruin things for others. It is selfish. I cannot believe that they can honestly blame a game for the actions of someone else.

well no one ever wants the blame to fall on them. naturally most people will blame other people. so i dont see this as that big of a shock that the parents are blaming video games for their obvious F*ck up!

Here's an extract from the interview that absolutely sickened me:

GD: What is the ultimate goal here?

Thompson: To destroy Rockstar.

GD: What does that mean in terms of

Thompson: (cutting in) So they don't exist anymore.

GD: How are you going to seek to do that?

Thompson: By taking all their money. It's very simple. You wipe someone out economically, they don't have any assets and therefore they cease to exist.

That proves it. The man is just a money-grabbing fraud! He doesn't care about 'righting the worlds wrongs'! He just wants to bleed Rockstar dry!

And it gets worse. Here's another extract:

GD: You are going to target Rockstar North?

Thompson: Not just Rockstar, another target will be Sony. The tie-in between Rockstar and Sony is rather firmly established.

Sony? What the hell did Sony do? Have ties with Rockstar? Of course they do, you stupid idiot! Rockstar games are published on Sony's console! That does not make them part ofthe problem!

I leave you with proof that this guy is both an idiot and a fraud:

GD: Thanks for your time Mr. Thompson and good luck in your struggle.

Thompson: Thanks. We don't need luck. The vectors are locked in, these people are dead meat.

How cocky can you get? I really, really hope that our law courts make mincemeat out of this guy, but somehow, I doubt it.

This is just stupid when they blame games for these things. The whole point of playing a game like Manhunt is the fact that it is NOT real and it IS fun. People need to realise the games are not at fault here.

If you are so easily influenced that you are going to kill someone because of a game then to be honest if it wasn't the game then it would of been a movie if it wasn't a movie then music and so on. If anything I would say games would maybe save people from creating such crimes? I am sure some people put on games just to vent and get away from reality.

Anyway I read that the Police said the game is not at fault, the boy owned the game but they seen no contection to the game and killing, it was the press that said the game was to blame. Are they now going back on this?

Yeah.
I'm willing to bet every cent i have, that bureaucracy makes more people kill than videogames, music, and movies combined.

Their are really some foolish kids in this world but I can't blame them,it's because their parents have time to go and take dicks but don't want to hang around with their kids. If most parents can just teach their kids the basics of life they'll be alright. I began playing MK when I was six and I never beat up or kill anyone,it's because I grew up differently from most kids. When I fight,my parents will beat me because a kid must be punished for their actions, anyways,I believe the root of all this problem is coming from the laws of England, they need to change. Kids should get their ass whipped for fighting and killing people. Every single shit happens to a little kid, parents wants to take them to a psychiatrist, bullshit, you need to take that kid in a hot bedroom and take out a belt and beat him for the shit he had done. If MK get banned in the UK,I gotter say their government is crappy, sorry if I offended any british on this site, the last thing I need again is a picture war. grin
Lol I've just read both interviews and that guy is a downright idiot.

No way will MK: D be banned cause' by the looks of it, his full attention is on Rockstar at the moment anyway.

The guy needs a slap, he will get owned, and then we can all laugh at him.

Yep, this is true.

One of the consequences of the ban is that it is now illegal to possess Manhunt in New Zealand. Anyone who possesses this game is liable to a fine of $2,000 (s131). Anyone who possesses Manhunt and exhibits or displays it to someone under the age of 18 is liable to imprisonment for one year or a fine of $20,000 (s127).

Anyone who supplies, distributes, exhibits, displays, supplies, possesses for the purpose of supply or advertises Manhunt, knowing that it is objectionable, could be imprisoned for up to a year or fined $20,000. Incorporated distributors and retailers could face a fine of $50,000 (s124).

A game classified as "objectionable" cannot be legally imported either. Objectionable publications, including Manhunt, are "prohibited imports" under the Customs and Excise Act 1996. The Customs Service has the power to seize all prohibited imports, regardless of how they arrive at the border. A person who buys Manhunt on an overseas trip and tries to bring it into New Zealand, and anyone who has ordered it from a website, risks not only having the game seized, but also 6 months in jail or a fine of $10,000 (s209 of the Customs and Excise Act).
