For those of you who don't know the level with all the bug reference and items in it is called the Beetle Lair. My guess is that they are scarab-like beetles because in the PSM article they also say you can get knocked through one of the windows and it will activate a death trap where beetles/scarabs will swarm and eat the victim alive. In order to be able to access the Death Trap i believe you have to get knocked through the wall (like Baraka in the fmv and scorpion and sub-zero in screenshots) so your in the area that contains the Level-Weapon. Right behind the Level-Weapon there is a red window that has the MK dragon logo on it casting light onto the Level-Weapon. This window is probably the window u can smash someone through since its also stated that some powerful Level-Weapons will be placed in areas dangerously close to Death Traps. I have also seen in many screenshots with characters grabbing for the Level-Weapon there are yellow splats on the ground, well now seeing as there are beetles that litter the floor my guess is that the characters will actually be able to walk on and crush the beetles as they fight, i think this is pretty bad ass cuz it adds a very subtle interactivity to the fight as to go along with the interactivity that actually has a barring on the fight outcome.

I just thought of something else that might be cool to have the beetles crawling on the floor do. What if the players let their guard down and stopped moving for brief periods the beetles would actually try to crawl up the players legs and cause minor damage, it could be a cool way to keep players alert and on their toes, of course there would be someway to shake of the beetles, like jumping or something.
