xena fought for aries and shang stung 1000s years ago in mortal kombat againts the mortals, but 10 yrs later she managed to break free of shang stungs mind trap, 1000s yrs later she is ressurrected by lord raiden as she resists fighting for raiden he tells her why her soul was made so bloodthirsty and vicious shang stung had put a soul spell on xena and now she wants revange on shang stung working for raiden and his mortals
