What's the point of a countdown if it doesn't, well, countdown to anything specific?

If it was a countdown to the start of Midway's Gamers Day, than wouldn't everyone's countdown clock match up to ticking down to a certain point in time? So if Gamer's Day were in Chicago and it started at 3pm, wouldn't a person in the Eastern time zone tick down to zero at 4pm while mine, in central time ticked down to zero at 3pm?

Why would anyone's clock tick down to zero already while others have not yet? Usually you'd want everyone's clock to tick down to a specific time even if that time is different for each time zone, but it would be the same moment in time if that makes sense.

It was just a universal countdown. Since the gamers day starts at 3pm in America thats when Boon set the countdown to... and since its only the one universal site it would be hard for him to set all different times in the world. Its seriously not that hard to wait a little longer...its just cause its near the very end that people are starting to go crazy! YES i know we;ve waited AGES for it! but whats an extra day :)
