I think the reason thear's so maney obscure charactors in the cells is that they are lost souls or somthing. After all we know Goro's dead but he appears in a cell and why would charactors like Fujin; a god be confind to bars? Also the prison stage in MK4/gold was referd to as the soul prison.

Good possibility, that it's a Prison in the 5th plane of the Netherealm or something like that.
Guess we'll have to wait and see :)

I have a reason why Fujin may be confined to prison bars. Rayden had none of his thunder god powers in the other realms. Maybe Fujin doesn't have his powers either. That a good explanation for why hes there. As for Goro, are you sure its goro and not some other Shokan, they all looko alike.
