seriously, I wander why you didn't name yourself christopher666, its almost as if you worship death...ofcourse death is natural, but celebrate it?

Research the numbers 666 and 777 and you'll understand.

Yes Celebrate it.

Celebrate LIfe, Celebrate Death.
Celebrate Happiness, Celebrate Sorrow.

Only a truly balanced person can see the beauty in both sides of life.

When you can cast yourself into the universe, and allow it to take you like a babe in his mothers arms, then you will understand balance.

Death is the essential function in the universe for life to exist.

Fear of Death is like fear of your reflection, or your homecoming.

Worshipping Death is just as much a boon, or heresey as worshipping life.

From your Vantage point, you cling to life, since you are hardwired to. However, that does not mean that it is the exent of truth, it is simply your current linear perspective.

I except people to be uncomfterable about this subject. But it goes in levels.

Some people can;t get a needle. Some laugh at them.

Some people can;t play mortal kombat, it seriously disturbs and saddens them. To them you would probally laught or chastize them. You would at least be confused, and deep down, you would probally think they are slightly weaker, but would never admit it.

Sopme people cannot handle the natural cycle and embrace all aspects of life, good and Bad. Some celebrate the dark and the Light. They look at those afraid of Celebrating death the same way people who love MK look at those who become sick and upset about it.

Its all about levels. How far can you push your mind ? How far is too Far ? How do you make that determination ? What point of refereance do you use to make that determination ?

In know where my boundry lies and more importantly I know WHY my boundry lies there. Do you ?

deep... but a little scary...

I think the blood and gore attracted people to the MK series. For me I played MK1 for days without fatalitys. Them me it said finish him I smashed buttons and did Sub-Sezo's Head Rip and from there on I was hooked. I think MKD will be a bit more gory and darker than MKDA and alot more than MK2. And hopefully there will be alot more gore in MK7.

I think there are worse games out there. It is just a fun fighting game that has over the top stuff in it. It is not as realistic as the first MK games, but still fun to play. Take Manhunt for example, it is a basic "Friday the 13th" game. You go around and kill people without a second thought. That game to me was too much, but whatever. I still played it. It was interesting at first, but got boring. Thrill Kill was the same way. It seems that the more morbid a game is, the less it will sell. MK keeps the fun going. That is important. The fact that it is darker keeps fans interested.
Also, it comes with an option to turn the blood and fatalities off.
That is my thoughts.

I totally see your point man..but it isnt only becuase of the stages they chose, its because of the newer, better graphics AND the storyline...if there wasnt so much chaos in this storyline then there wouldnt be as much of a mentality of darkness, also its because of the characters like baraka and the dragon king...looking strange like that always adds to these things...but hey if you dont like how morbid it is you can play the yi yang level (spelling? its the island) and chill (or burn) in the tropics...there isnt really much morbid about that from what i see...and MK should have options for blood AND lighting...if you were able to make the lights darker or more of one hue then it wuold of course give it a darker or lighter feeling...actually blood has little to do with it because the blood looks so fake haha wink
i see your point but i think MK is ok for now

I think the major problem with the MK games after MK2 was not gore or blood but ambiance. Level light, sounds, character designs, background touches and music made MK2. Things like the extremely serious and deadly look of the characters faces on the Select screen. I remember how Shang Tsung looked on that. His select picutre had dark black and red brooding clouds and his face just gave off an erie feeling. The bodies in the Background were so dark. The living forest seemed really creepy because we had all been in a dark forest that creeped us out. The Characters peeking out was really erie as well, and the Raiden looking guy killed by the vines. Little touches like the hooks in the deadpool.

MK2 gave the feeling that the OUtworld truly reveled a little in displays of Death. Like Ancient Rome. I love the Thousands of people cheering for their champion Kintaro in the Background. It was amazing because, even though their lives sucked, they cheered when Kintaro brutally murdered an Opinion.

It was darkness like this.

The screams were also very erie.

The Pit 2 was a simple splat on jagged rocks.

Other touches like Baraka having no visible eyes, but just a darkened socket. Also how when he impaled someone, he looked the dying person right in the eyes and smiled, showing such great satisfaction in the torment and destruction of another being.

Tyhe Kombat tomb has those creatures flying around in the Background. It gave youa feeling that this truly was an alien world, where its inhabitants suffered, and reveled in the suffering of others, and for each character, the merciless slaughtering of an oponent was a common thing. It held no consequence, it was simply a part of outworld life. there were no trials or authorites, just a distant sligth satisfaction from a ruler who enjoyed seeing the blood splatter all over their victorious opponent.

The usic was also very dark, oriental and serious. There was no rock and roll or anything, Just trraditional.

Another aspect that seperated Mk2 From most of the other games was the lack of technology displayed. Outworld clearly had more power than Earth, but they decided to use that power to revel in suffering. things like goping to the moon would mean nothing to the inhabitants of this world. Just another body on the stones floor, used as a cheap thrill. The mentality "Hey it wasnt me".

Its little touches like these that made MK2 so amazing.

Mortal Kombat has always been "morbid" then came mk3. MK is finally returning back to its roots and is looking good what more do you want?
By the way Man Hunt/GTA games are sensless they cross the line. Mortal Kombat is "fight to the death" No one Innocent Dies.

WEll.. Mk2 and 1 where not all that morbid and sadistic....
Some of the DA fats where just sick... (Kitana and Sonya's, they where just sadistic...)
MK is not about torture and pain, it's about death (well.. not according to the Movie Raiden.. but anyway)...The worst thing that could happen to u in MK1 was getting ur head ripped off...and in Mk2 being chopped in 2... not having ur organs liquify and puke them out for like 6 minutes!

I agree... Mk is going beyond gory, it's morbid and sadistic

Although... so far MKD looks like hit it right on the spot

While I think the morbid feel of MKD could even go further than it is.. this is by far the darkest game yet. A few times I was real surprised as the level of gore and darnkess they put into this one. The bodies in the belly of the nethership I thought was a pretty good indication this game has a fairly dark feel to it.

BUT! mk is totally a double edged sword, when playing online, trash talk, compliments, and once you get to know the enviroments, it's almost like the darnkess totally fades and it's just a big party.

I certinaly think the intro movie helps to solidify the morbid feel of the game.

I personally feel that Mortal Kombat hasn't gone morbid enough. There is too much light in all stages and the enviroments don't make me cringe anymore. MK1 is the game that will always be in my nightares because of the atmosphere. It felt dark and mysterious at all times. It made you play harder because you actually feared death. Most people didn't care about dying in MKDA because you were being killed at 11am in the middle of the bloody desert. What's scary about that?? Nothing. These last two MKs were too safe in my opinion. What happened to pit fights in dark cellars with corpses hanging from meat hooks???Where is the Living forest with trees moaning your going to die??? Where is the madness?!
