Do you think MK should make a return to the dark feel it used to have?

I think that Mk 1 and Mk 2 had the darkest feel of all the games. This is due partly to the fact that the series was still really new, but I think it had to do with the stage designs too. Mk 1 had the Pit, which we all remember had dead bodies and severed heads at the bottom, and it had you fighting at night with a pitch black sky and full moon. Not to mention the killer fatality you could do if you won the match. Mk 2 had the Pit II, which also had you fighting at night. The Pit II also had one of the most realistic fatalities ever to appear in a Mortal Kombat game (when I say realistic I mean something similar could happen if someone were to fall from a great height.) Almost every stage in MK2 used dark colors. The Dead Pool used dark green acid, the armory used black and bright yellowish/red and had weapons in the background, the Kombat Tomb had the skulls and the dark red sky, and the Wastelands had the dark purples, blacks, and the impaled victims in the background. I think that all Mk6 needs to do to make the game feel dark visually when you are playing it is to add darker colors into the backgrounds of the stages and include stage fatalities so that we get the feeling of danger down below (if you're on a bridge or platform). And to make the stages simplistic so they are believable, but also include some depth to the stages to ehance the fighting experience. What do I mean by that? Well the Pit I was very simplistic, but the colors in the stage gave it an ominous feel, and you always loved it when you got to fight there because of the killer fatality you could do at the end of the match. Same with the Pit II. These fatalities were a lot more believable than some of the fatalities that came after it in mk3 and beyond, and that's what made them so good and gave the earlier Mk's that dark feel. (sorry about the spacing. I edited my message and it got messed up)

Of course it should. That and it should also return to the old roots of how it is based on chinese mythology. I think that MK4 and MKDA brought back that dark feel, but it didn't quite bring back the chinese mythological essence.

totally agree, we seem to be missing that edge that was in the first 2. What sucks is I think Boon is holding it back for some reason.

OF COURSE. Like you pals wrote, mk1 and mk2 were the darkest games of the franchise, and that is what we all want to see and experience again, also, I think Boon should recreate in 3D some fighting arenas from the previous games like the Elder Gods Hall and the Fire Well from mk4, The Church and the Soul Chamber from mk3, I don ́t remember the name of this stage from mk2 where in the background you could see impaled people, that just looked menacing and gave that horror feeling that mk needs again and lost in mk3,mk4 and deadly alliance, the acid pool from mk2, I really liked how those chains looked, and i would love to see a fatality with those chains from the Acid Pool in mk 6, we need the Pit, or how better, many Pits Stages for mk6, also the MUSIC has to be darker than deadly alliance, horror music, orchestral, ghotic music, chinesse music, the music must give that horror feeling again alongside the backgrounds, deadly alliance music in my opinion is the worst of all the franchise, I really love mk3 music, but the problem is that mk3 music does not sounds dark.

In my honest opinion, MK 6 definately needs to be darker than MK:DA was if it wants to be successful. I would also like to see it make a return to the chinese mythology just like Sub-Zero 7th. MK:DA did not have any sense of darkness to it at all in my opinion. None of the stages were scary looking, and only a few fatalities were realistic looking or gory. Remember reptile's invisible slice in MK2 where you could see the spinal cord and the muscles? That was a gruesome fatality. As well as the pit II, dead pool, and Kombat tomb. Pretty much every fatality in MK2 was gory. I think that with MK6 they could make the game darker and return to its chinese mythological roots very easily with the direction they are already heading. We all know this next game is going to revolve around the dragon king. Just make him as big and scary looking as he looks in that drawing we have of him in Raidens ending and that will already give the game a darker feel. Design the stages around chinese background elements and maybe make some of the fatalities or stage fatalities play off of elements of chinese torture practices. And of course make the fatalites realistic as opposed to corny. Don't give us explosions and popcorn guts, and we've got a good game.

Excellent!! You better get a lot of Dragon Points for that!!! tongue grin Of course it should have that mythological essence, but mixed in with that outworldly and supernatural feel. And of course I totally agreed with what you said. MK:DA did create a good ambience, but it didn't create the same great ambience that MK1 and MK2 created. And although I found the music in MK:DA to be decent, it still wasn't captivating like MK1's and MK2's music. One thing I noticed about MK1 and MK2 was that it also had a bit of Japanese influence in the ninjas and in Rayden/Raiden.

One thing I can point out is that some of the characters bounce around like IDIOTS after they win the match.

MK6 needs some really bad signature moves if you choose not to finish them off.

REFERENCE - MK2 BARAKA WINS, KNIVES COME OUT, HE CROSSES HIS ARMS OVER HIS CHEST AND GIVES AN EVIL SMILE(COOL) RAIDEN'S SIGNATURE MOVE IN MK2 WAS GREAT ALSO.

BRING BACK THE SIGNATURE MOVES THAT SEND A MESSAGE THAT THE CHARACTER IS BAD AND UNTOUCHABLE.

YEAH, THIS WOULD HELP WITH THE DARK FEEL!

dewey79 good point, I totally agree. The signature moves in MK2 were really good. Some killer signature moves in MK6 would be a really good addition to the game.

I agree with u all.
I've never felt like when I played MK2.
MK2 is simply the best. Althought MK:DA is very much improved (an excellent game) but the horror feeling that was in MK2 is almost lost with the next mks.
I liked a lot someone's idea that there should be some torture in the backgrounds (people dying...) and the music should be more horrifying.

they definately need to get on track. mk4 had a good feel to it and mortal kombat mythologies also. hell mk3 did until i saw the stupid friendships and babalities, that, and it just didnt have that good of fatalities. mk4 had some good ones, the tone was right for that one of course im just talking about atmosphere here.

mk5 definately degraded my view of mortal kombat.
yea it was a good fighting game but...just not mortal kombat it looked like a rip off of the mk series as far as what it stands for.

mk3 and above had just pure stupid fatalites mixed in with some good ones. they need to do away with the cartoony fatalites like shang jumping way up in the air and those cartoony green rings fake looking blood going everywhere. i suppose the pop corn was alright but not for EVERY fatality except quan chis.

they dont need friendships in mk6, and its imperiatve they make the blood more realistic and the stages cooler than mk5. i dont really see a problem with unrealistic fatalites its always fun to see something unrealistic it doesnt need to be too real all the time because its just fun to watch an over the top fatality involving sorcerer powers or fireballs. its imperiative its not stupid looking though. just needs to be over the top like shang tsungs wouldnt be considered "real" since he uses soul powers but still cool he just doesnt need to go jumping up in the air and landing on him like a pansy.

we need eviler sound effects/music but NOT THE GOTHIC SHIT.

and i know what you mean by signature moves except its always cooler after they do the fatality they shouldnt do it if you dont do a fatality just to make the fatalities cooler.
and thats another thing bring more fatalites to the plate. i think we drilled that into their heads enough im sure they visit the site some or received some type of response from the fans and did something about that.
