Do you think that Some Characters should STAY Dead?
It appears no one in MK can be killed.
Shang Tsung was.
Johnny Cage was.
Scorpion was.
Sub-Zero was.
Mileena was.
Sindel was.
Kabal was.
Shao Khan was.
Baraka was.
Goro was.
Liu Kang was.
And they're coming back. Am I the only one who thinks this Dragon Ball Z I-can-never-really-die thing is getting old? Just kill some people off and leave it at that. Sheesh. Just my humble opinion. What's your? Fatality.

Well, Kabal, Subzero, Sindel, and Scorpion never really died in the storyline. Konquest said it was rumored that Mavado got his hookswords from Kabal. Young Subby simply suceeded the other Subzero, who remains dead. Scorpion was dead before the MK series took footing, so I won't count his demise. And Sindel... to be honest, I have no idea what happened to Sindel after MK3. But I can't say I remember her dying.
But in a game, I prefer them not to resurrect characters, unless they are stupid enough to kill an excellent character who should remain in the series. If this was a movie or novel, I would defnitely agree with you to the last inch.

I really hope Liu Kang stays dead...not because I don't like him, I used to kick butt playing as him LOL...but because he has been in like almost every MK game and he was always the champion of MK. There's needs to be new champions.

No he wasn't. The only time he may even be considered dead is when Deception is released and it says he's dead. So far he is still alive and well (not looking too good for him though).
Garlador Wrote: Johnny Cage was.
Yes, he was. He was killed pre-MK3 by Motaro's extermination squads (maybe evn Motaro himself), then he returned in Trilogy as his soul returned to his body. Then in MK4, Raiden resurrected him as the Elder Gods were in trouble. Johnny Cage died once, but he is now as alive as Sub-Zero.
Garlador Wrote:Scorpion was.
Yes he was. But that was his whole reason for being in the game. Scorpino's whole gimmick is that he is dead. I wish they'd do something new with him, though.
Garlador Wrote:Sub-Zero was.
Sub-Zero the 5th (I think he was the fifth) died at the hands of Scorpion in MK1. Since then he was nver been seen again. Sub-Zero 6 is still alive.
Garlador Wrote:Mileena was.
Yes, she was. She died in MK2, killed by Kitana, Trilogy, killed by Kitana again and maybe even hatricked by Kitana in MK4. She was resurrected by some kind of evil each time though. It sort as has a good reasoning behind it, too. Good dies, good dies, evil dies, evil gets resurrected. Sort of looks like an uphill abttle doesn't it?
Garlador Wrote:Sindel was.
Again, it was her story to be dead. She killed herself prior to any of the games, then she was resurrected.
Garlador Wrote:Kabal was.
We don't know that for sure. I think it would be stupid if he wasn't, but anyway we have to wai until Deception to be sure.
Garlador Wrote:Shao Khan was.
He is probably dead, but if he returns there is a good chance he never did.
Garlador Wrote:Baraka was.
No he wasn't.
Garlador Wrote:Goro was.
He died pre-MKDA, and we probably won't ever see him again.
Garlador Wrote:Liu Kang was.
I doubt he is returning. If he is, I think it is really bad writing on the MK Team's part. Liu Kang's death would probably help the series more than anyone else's.

I agree that normal characters that are killed off should stay dead. Quite frankly, I think Liu Kang should stay dead, as well as Smoke (confirm he's dead), Kabal (confirm he's dead), Sonya (if/when she dies), Jax, Johnny Cage (next time), Kitana, Quan Chi, etc.
I think some characters need to be killed off to really make the feel that characters do die in this game.

If they decide to kill off a character then that character should be dead. The storyline needs consistency, killing a character would have greater effect if we knew they werent coming back two games later. If dying = dead for good then perhaps the storyline of future games would be better planned in advance.

Old Sub-Zero was in MKT/UMK3. He was the masked Sub-Zero. Did no one catch onto that?

One thing that many people always seem to forget is that not everyone's endings in each game actually happen.
And alot of the time the game endings use the words 'believed to have been killed'. This is no confirmation of that character being killed. It's there so Midway can write them into the storyline again at some stage.
There are also only 2 SubZero's! Not 5 or 6! And only 1 of them was thought to be dead.
Goro is definately dead. He will never return.
Kabal & Shao Kahn have only ever been 'defeated' not killed.
Sindel was dead before she became a character in the game. Just resurrected for the MK3 plot for Shao Kahn to take over Earthrealm.
Lui Kang is dead, but i do believe we haven't seen the last of him. I like the Kang spirit idea, but don't think that will happen in Deception. Maybe the next installment.
Scorpion was dead before the MK tournament even started. That's his story.

There were theories in UMK3, that when he unmasked, it was Raiden who used the form of Sub-Zero to fight Kahn. If you remember his ending he was a "fighter who would return in MK 4". Raiden was restricted from interfering, so he might have taken the mortal form of Sub-Zero to Kombat Kahn; I mean he is a god right?
Mortal Kombat Trilogy threw a wrench in this. However MKT was just a game for the purpose of nostalgia, and a send off to the 2-D legacy of MK.

In the MK Mythologies story, it says that Sub-Zero from MK 1 was the 5th sub-Zero. Thus, his brother, who replacemd him is the 6th.
In Reptile's konquest mode, he found the corpse of Shao Kahn in the throne room.
Yes, Goro is gone. My boy, Noob Saibot, killed him. See Noob's ending in Mortal Kombat:Tournament edition.

The only two I want to stay alive through anything is Nitara and Baraka. All but Baraka should've stayed dead... and Liu Kang should stay dead as well... I hate Liu Kang.

That's pretty much it. And there were 6 Sub-Zeros. The Sub-Zero in MK1 was the fifth, while the other Sub-Zero was Sub-Zero VI.

I think the only characters who will stay dead for good are either the less popular fillers (eg, Jarek) or those who are no longer needed (eg, MK1 Sub Zero). Otherwise it's the old "believed to have been killed" line or ressurection.
Personally, I hope Liu Kang would return (though I doubt he will). Lets face it, this is not a storyline thing. It's a popularity thing. Most people hate Liu Kang (for no apparent reason), and that's why they're saying things like the storyline would get screwed up, the game would be lame, etc if he returned. Yeah right!
If it were one of the more popular characters that got killed in MKDA (for example) like Sub Zero or Scorpion, the first hint that these characters would be returning and there'll be hundreds of threads reading "Yay! Scorpion / Sub Zero's coming back!"
Nobody would say "Scorpion and Sub Zero should remain dead". Nobody. It's a popularity thing, plain and simple. When Midway released the image of Baraka, everyone went into a frenzy! And didn't we see him explode to a hundred pieces in MK Gold? I'm not a Baraka fan, but I still got excited to see him return!
If Liu Kang returns, cool. If he doesn't, well....that's not gonna stop me from playing MK Deception!

It never said Shang Tsung and Baraka died. And Kabal was defeated and believed to be dead.
Johnny Cage and Mileena both died only once and are back.
I don't like counting Scorpion or Sindel since being undead is Scorpion's story and if Sindel wasn't resurrected, MK3 wouldn't have happened.
The original Sub-Zero, Goro, and Liu Kang died and are still dead as of now.
Shao Kahn is dead at the moment, although he's the only one I can see coming back again.
All in all, I agree. Confirmed dead characters should stay dead from now on. Johnny Cage and Mileena died and were resurrected once, and that should be the end of it.
