does anyone really care about chess/ pussle combat, when compared with what could have been
let me start by saying i mean no disrespect to the mk team for the effort im sure they put into these aspects of the game, and i would like to keep any discussions regarding my following post civil and intelligent. IMHO, Neither puzzle/chess mode deserve to be in MK, bluntly. I know that the team wanted to do something drastically different, but i believe that was more than covered in konquest mode. I really support konquest mode, and i think it is an excellent idea. However, let me pose a hypothetical situation. if puzzle/ chess are not in Deception, the development could have been focused solely on gameply in both konquest and the basic fighting game. Now, this would have allowed for vast improvements in fighting engine, as well as even more fatals, characters, backrounds, and anything else you can think of. Konquest could have even more potential (now i realize the game isnt out and we really have no idea what konquest will be, but bear with me). Konquest mode could have incorporated a free form fighting style like Tekken's Force mode, which i found very entertaining. Also, a mode like this would fit the mk universe even better than it would tekken. I mean, who wouldnt enjoy whooping the asses of hundreds of random warriors as Scorpion? Plus, each character's storyline could progress interestingly and individually, provided the effort was there in development. The sky would be the limit. What does everyone else think?
(once again, i would like to say that i greatly respect the time and effort the team has put into MK D, this is just my opinion on what i feel would be a more desirable path for the game.)

I'd say those new games will be FUN online and that's what it's all about, FUN!
Great move by the team to put specific backgrounds like MK Pit 1 in 3D on chess. This will attract more players.

let me just say that in MKDA, after you finish Konquest there was nothing else to do!
I think that perhaps more attnetion would have went into the fighting but you never know, the release may just have been bummped up or something. I am really looking forward to MK chess, and PUzzle Kombat.. I think it's something that you can do when your done kicking ass for the day, yet still doing something realted to MK. and like the previous poster said it's all about fun, and with those modes online that should lead to alot of fun. I still think Konquest will be more vast than any aspect of Tekken Force, but we shall see in about a month.

More time for a good fighting system might mean that the people who are finished unlocking stuff will still actually play. Lots of people that post on these boards everyday said they stopped playing MKDA after they finished unlocking stuff and they spend more time here than they do playing MKDA in any given week, so all I can say is the fighting engine needs a lot of work.
I mean when we all came into the series, it was those endless days of playing a fighting game, not minis and useless amounts of unlockables and secrets.
Most people will disappear from these boards a week to one month after the game releases. Because even though there is so much stuff added to the game, they are still fluff. Fluff cannot compensate for gameplay when it comes to fighting games.

Exactly.
What will most of you do once you have unlocked everything? The currently lacking engine will not tide you over for long, unless you are insanely attached to the game.

Agreed.
I think those minigames will kick ass.

I really dont see where the hype of all the minis really come from, primarily Puzzle Kombat. I mean its Super Puzzle Fighter with MK characters, no gem building, and specials. Wow, I mean really. Do people here find themselves picking up Super Puzzle Fighter, Tetris, Columns, Dr. Mario, etc. everyday? Jesus, a dressed up MK version is not gonna change a genre and I'm sure puzzle fans aren't exactly the biggest MK fans either.
So you have a lot of people that would rather see story, secrets, and some want to see a fighting engine, but instead you give a puzzle game?
Everyone, go play Puzzle Fighter, really. See how much of it you can put up with in a day and see if you can play it everyday for a decent amount of time. Now imagine playing that for years until the next MK comes. Instead of getting a better fighting engine that would be worthwhile until the next MK, you got puzzle kombat, yay? Think about it. Super Puzzle Fighter holding you up for years. Is this not getting through to anyone? =P

Sickman, I feel ya. However, MK fans now a days don't give a shit about proper gameplay. Plain and simple. If MK ever gets managable gameplay then it will have been by accident, not design. IF by some chance in the future this happens, it will be because of a team change, developer change or a revelation by someone deep with in the franchise.
I'm not focusing on any individual, because it's been said by many; but people throw around the term "fun" like a used condom. It's entertaining to do, but no one realy wants to touch it. No one really wants to go deeper and explain "fun." DA was fun? Fine, that's cool, whatever. I thought it was absolutely grotesque. A shamefull attempt made with in the genre. Hell, it wasn't even really an MK; the aura was extremely stale.
Instead of appealing to retards and 12 year olds, doing so with a mature game btw, Midway needs to get off the cock and actually make MK a fighting game. If they don't plan on doing that, then move to a different genre. MK "players" and the old school are getting raped. MK fans no longer want a fighting game, they want "fun." Whatever the fuck "fun" is supposed to mean. It's obvious they don't care what genre it claims.
So, to answere the question
. No, I couldn't care less about chess and puzzle. I'm not even going to play it. Konquest, meh. Not a "bad" thing. I am being forced to play it, though. So it better be woth my time. Not some half assed adventure/rpg with weak dialogue and shoddy presentation.
The new MK is not a bad "game." It's simply a horrible fighter. I couldn't give a shit weather or not seperate teams worked on seperate content. Which, btw, I'm cautious as to just how "seperate" it all was. I am impressed with the style and aura. It feels more like MK, now.
It's just to bad that I'll probably enjoy throwing around a condom more than playing MKD.

we don't really have any known reasons to play these little diversions except to get the jist of them unless there fun but we have to have a reason to play them like a secret that could be unlocked by beating these modes
