Just let me say i was a big fan of shang tsung and quan chi following deadly alliance, they were total badass and I used them the most, then , when deception came , I was disappointed to not have them as playable, you could fight them in konquest a little but they were not in the cast. But I was happy to see baraka, kabal , and the new zombie liu kang returning . I've always been a fan of veterans in fighting games. I also thought they could have let away with some of the new characters from that game. Dairou and darrius , never liked them , ashra looks like a female version of raiden, Hotaru , don't know, don't really like him either, however Havik I found him pretty cool with his bone cracking things , not supposed to bend that way you know.

I was disappointed Mileena came back and Kitana was gone. If they are supposed to be the female Scorpion and Sub-Zero, then why were they separated for so long?

i was dissapointed to see quan chi gone. I think his leg-beat-em-to-death fatality would've been a nice, updated edition to Deception. not so much shang tsung, seeing as they pretty much completely changed him. confused

i didn't know who the unlockable chara cters would be when i bought mkd. when i started playing konquest and tsung and quan chi were there, i assumed they'd be unlockable (without cheats) and was gutted when they weren't. but the excitement of dark raiden, noob - smoke and zombie kang totally made up for it.

my criticism of mka as a game is it just feels like a greatest hits album. by that i mean its got all the characters (like a greatest hits has all the singles) but where is the soul? I think, imo, that mkd is actually stronger for its absensies, it adds a real mystery to the game and asks loads of questions whilst mka leaves very few unanswered.

so in answer to your question... yes.... and no!
