Extended Hooksword Range and Attacks in MKD
Extended Hooksword Range and Attacks in MKD

I was thinking it would be nice to see the Hookswords being linked by their hooks to give a larger range for the user. They would be then used in a series of swinging strikes and spin attacks which would look awesome in MKD. This would give an advantage to you if your opponent decides to stay away as you have a larger reach. Plus it means theyd have a harder time getting near you. A combination of spinning high and low attacks would be cool to see with the Hookswords linked!
Obviously youd have the option to unlink them when ready. Itd be nice to have the option to do this with the Hookswords in game.

Just like in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, hunh? Great idea. Agreed, there are few, if any, weapons that allow you to dictate range. In terms of other attacks, I think both hookswords and sais could be use to snag the clothing of opponents and pull them in closer for a throw or another attack. Plus there was the thread I created months ago about weapon reversals. Yes, hookswords are very versatile weapons.

Glad you agree. It'd add a bit more depth to the Hookswords and this particular weapon style and would make it more fun.

Just like in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. I was just watching it and that was what inspired me to make this thread!
The Hookswords would be fun to use to block sword or other weapon attacks by locking the other weapon inside the hooks.
Or you could use them to sweep the opponent off their feet or rip clothing just as you said. Pulling them in closer for a throw would be interesting too.
Another idea would be to use the hooks to swinging the opponents weapons or arms away from you when they go to attack.

I like the idea tg, I think it would work well. It would give you another attacking option if your opponent maintains a sizeable distance from you. If Kabal is a close range fighter (or Mavado, if he is back and has hookswords again) then this would solve the problem of smarter fighters who keep their distance. And would also make the hooksword fighter more versitile, becoming not only a short range, but far range fighter too.
Grinningevildeath, I like your idea too. Hooking their clothes to drag them close would be great, and could open them up for a free unblockable hit. If you were attacking, and your opponent tried to back away, you could hook em and pull them right back into your attack!
I would also like to see the hookswords used to hook around the opponents ankles and trip them up. I think it would be like a sweep, but with the hooks instead.
How about if an opponent throws a punch, you sidestep so they miss and hook them, and spin them around leaving them open for another free hit.
Or maybe you just knocked your enemy down, but want to continue to beat them. You could hook their clothes and pull them to their feet quickly, and continue your attack.
I think the possibilities are endless with the hookswords...

Loving these ideas. It's a pity not all of them would get implemented into the game!
Against those who like to stay away, it'd force an attempt to get nearer to you to attack and stop you from attacking. This idea will help in causing the opponent to panic.
Pulling back and opponent who is trying to flee would be great, but that could get overly cheap. It's a nice tactic though.
Rather than picking up a fallen opponent, how about dragging themand swinging them around on the floor or smashing their faces into the ground? I think that would be awesome! Although lifting them up works too! You could finish them off with another combo or a throw.
The hookswords could be deadly weapons if utilised properly and to their fullest potential in game! Even deadlier than they already are!

*nods* MOST definitely! That would be beyond cool. Remembered watching this in CTHD, and thinking: *Wow..that's an extremely badass trick she just did with those hookswords!!* Seeing Kabal/Mavado do this in the game would be SWEET. This would make either fighter very formidable! As they could go from short range to long range in the blink of an eye. It could be the 'special' button, while in Weapon stance, that unhooks/hooks them.
Nice thread Ty..but then..that doesn't surprise me in the least.

Thanks, Tazzer! Good idea on having the special move button perform the linking/unlinking of the hookswords! If that happened I'd want the sidestep sweeop Mavado had to be put in with another button combination.
And yes, seeing it would indeed be SWEET!
In a way you could set it up like Ivy's whip-sword in Soul Calibur. When it's in sword form it has one set of attacks and when it's in whip for it has a completely different set. So you could input a command to link them, and open a host of long range attacks. I don't think it'll be a MKD thing sadly, but it'd be a perfect thing to implement in MK7.
I've got to watch Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon again. That movie is so awesome.
I actually have a set of Tiger Head Hookswords.

*I know T wants to tell me something but I just cant figure out what it is!!!*
But now that I read that post, I came to understand the idea and I think its great!
One of the things Ivy became instantly my favorite fighter in SC was because of her weapon attack.
That strange whip-sword was amazing! And Im loving the idea of having something similar with the hooks-swords. I think it would be great. Nice thread T.

That would be exactly how it works. When they're together we'll see more spinning attacks and more long range attacks. I'd love to see some of the attacks from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon performed when they're linked. It would really be cool!

Sounds good to me, it would look awesome in combo's.

I don't think it'd be unfair at all. It would be both a positive and a negative for both players and you'd need to know how to use the Hookswords well overwise you'd get punished.

Yeah, it'd be great! I'd love to see it happen!

I like this idea it would be deadly. It would be cool if all ppl with short weapons could use this. I think it would be great and deadly. I would swing those SOBs around and hit ppl lol. It would be cool when you wanted to untach them if you did like a fast arm curl bringing the sword ur holding up fast so the hooks vertical. Then the one thats attached flies off and Kabl catches and twirls it back so its facing foward. It would be cool.

I like this idea. This could be a great way to add some strategy elements when using the Hookswords against your opponent. I also like the idea of dragging or lifting up your opponent with the Hookswords.
I don't think this would be an unfair advantage because you would have to learn how to use them properly, if you didn't, then they could be your downfall and you might lose the match.
If all these ideas where used, I think they would make using the Hookswords a lot more enjoyable.

lol Seems you definitely would love this option. Swinging them and around and hurting people is the obejective. It would be deadly, but I don't think all short range weapons could be used in this manner.
And nice unattachement idea!

I agree about it not being unfair. You would have to make sure you knew all possible attacks and ranges with the Hookswords linked or unlinked. As you said not enough practice with thm could be your downfall.
I'm glad you like the idea and I too think it would make the Hookswords more enjoyable.

I like this idea tgrant. It'd be cool to be able to change the way you use the weapon. Like interlinking the hookswords as you said or an extendable staff of some sort. Anyway nice idea.

Thanks, man!
An extendable staff would be fun or maybe one you could take apart and use as two Kali Sticks maybe.
Glad you like the idea!
