I've been browsing around the forums and every post I've read about "MK8 info" is false. I just wanted to point out the easiest ways to prove that these "insiders" posting MK8 info are fakes.
I worked for AOL GameDaily for many years so I have a good idea of how the industry works from the inside.
Anyway, I don't have any current info on MK8 (and if I did I'd be under NDA and couldn't share any of it anyway), but if MK8 has been shown to the press (which is possible), they would not know what the control scheme was unless they played it. If they have not played it, at best they'd have character art, a handful of screens, the first trailer and a few gameplay details.
They would not know the total number of characters. In fact, I would say that it's unlikely Boon even has a final number set in stone. They may have a ballpark figure though.
Also, if anyone claims to have video footage of the game, that footage would be released shortly after. Developers don't make trailers or gameplay videos and then hold on to them for months. If they did that, the footage would not represent the current build of the game and would there be useless and outdated.
I was also the first person to ask Boon about MK8 back in 2006 (http://www.gamedaily.com/games/mortal-kombat-8/xbox-360/game-features/interview-ed-boon/5370/1044/). Here's the MK8 portion of the interview:
"At this time I figured I should ask the one thing I've wanted to know since Armageddon was announced. I asked Boon when Mortal Kombat would be making its way to next generation consoles. With a smile Boon told me that the next Mortal Kombat (MK8 for now) will be on next generation consoles and they've already started work on it. It almost certainly won't be hitting next year, but it should be arriving sometime in 2008. In addition, the game will not use the same engine as Armageddon and the past few MK titles, so we'll be getting an all new Mortal Kombat"

All of what you are saying is true. How can MK return to the standard HP, LP, HK, LK?????
That would make absolutely no sense in my opinion. That is definitely a 2D Format.

Eat that guy.
That was the main reason I'll made this post, but since you linked to it, I'll take it piece by piece.
We will call the source john doe for now,He has taken pictures of the game in motion which will be printed in the june issue of the magazine he works for.
Assuming MK8 is revealed on or around 4/17, it makes sense that it would be in the June issue of various magazines (which would hit in March). However, the journalist would not have taken his own pics of the game in motion. Midway would provide direct feed screens to be used in the mag.
Midway have also disclosed the name of the game to him, cant say much about that right now due to embargo.
Obviously if Midway is going to announce the game in less than a month it already has a final name. Any publication planning an article would know this name. This doesn't prove or disprove anything.
He has in his possesion an artists render of scorpion, subzero, jaxx, and a new female character as of now we dont know who it is.
Fair enough. I could see Midway provide character art on the new game, but it doesn't make sense that the "insider" doesn't know who the female character is. Midway wouldn't release official art to the press and not tell them who's in the art, especially if it's a new character.
He wasnt allowed to play the game but did say there were four attack buttons. It looks like the old style hp,lp,hk,lk is back only this time each fighter attacks differently.
If he hasn't played the game it's unlikely he'd know what the control scheme is. However, if Boon answered a question about the controls, then it's likely he'd know exactly what the scheme is and not guessing it's like the old style.
The big reveal is close people.
If this had been mentioned before th Noob.com updates this would mean something. However, at the time of the post it means nothing.
Visualy he said the game holds its own against tekken and vf5.
Which Tekken? It's unlikely this journalist has seen Tekken 6 up close an in person since it's extremely rare to find in the UK and is only in two locations in the US. So he's comparing a first hand look at an incomplete MK8 to... screens of Tekken 6? Low quality YouTube vids perhaps? Sure...
Will do what I can to get the renders.
Get the renders before they're released anywhere else. That's about the only way I would believe this post.
Well Ill tell you this, I am one of those people who actually found out info on MKDA before it came out. I knew about kenshi and i knew about the wasps that were supposed to be part of a staff for Quan Chi as his weapon, but later ended up being part of that other dude's costume.. and was switched to flies.
Now i knew this info and was sworn not to say anything, and i only told about 3 people that i knew i could trust with it. I was smart enough to know that if i posted it on the mk5,org message board at that time it was mk5.org,
1. I would never be trusted with that kinda information again.
2. No one would ever believe me, and i was considered a trustworthy person.
My point is, Anyone who has any info on mk8 would not post it here. And if they did, im sure it would be deleted because this site has connections with midway and im sure they would not want to ruin that relationship with them. Just wait for the press release, im sure this will be one of the first websites out there to get the information.

Basically don't believe anything that's been said before

While I agree with the rest of your post, this part is false.
Look at MK:A
We where shown pictures of a person being refered to as Guy. Who later became Taven. He did not have a name at first. So it is possible that the same is to happen here with this new female if one actually existed. Instead of giving her a name she could be refered to as new female #2 for a short while till they actually decide on a name.

There's a difference between character art and screens. I believe what you're talking about were early screens of Konquest (I could be wrong, it's been awhile). Midway was showing off Konquest mode moreso than the character Guy. If it was character art (lik the early Sub-Zero and Mileena stuff), it'll almost always be for a character that's already been set in stone (name and all).
I'm sure Midway had character art for Taven, but if the character is unnamed it's unlikely they would give that art to the press for public display.

Simply not true at all, namco released the art work and renders for hilda the new soul calibur character months before they named her.
She was even in one of the first trailers for the game.
Its good press to reveal characters and to keep people guessing.

As much as I'd love to believe cyberdog, I don't.
I believe Dr.Dogg over him because as the author of the guides, he has a heads up over most of us and having him here is indeed a blessing.
I think that the fake posts usually arise to get people's hopes up, and it's a grand effort - don't get me wrong, seeing people get excited over nothing - especially on the internets is hi-larious.
yes, i hyphenated hilarious.
anyway, I think that you guys are taking things too seriously, and until anything is announced to the media or appears on the front page here, it needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
Dr.Dogg, thanks for clearing things up. I also want to thank you for taking our input on the MK8 Guide and hopefully you can compile a guide that will appeal to all of us and keep us posted with things here.
