Cool, perhaps you'll get a job at Midway down the road or someone or whoever you can now.I'm assuming you live in America unless you travel.

Yeah, I live in the States. I am definitely planning on looking for a job with one of the big companies in 1-2 years, once I have enough experience. But I really am not sure that I want to work for Midway. I don't think I would enjoy an MK game as much if I was developing it at the same time. It would just take away all the anticipation and excitement of it.

They do make other games you know though besides MK, ever play Psi-Ops?This game is GREAT, awesome gameplay, nice story and just very interactive as far as in game mechanics and won an award in 2004 on gamespot for best new mechanics in a video game.

If you play it, you'll see what I mean. It's a 3rd person perspective that gives you 6 psi powers in TK, PK, Mind Control, Remote Viewing, Mind Drain and Aura View.

It's a great game, got rated by most reviews 9/10 I must say it is a very good game.Lots of replay value also, fun game.

They also make some "extreme sports" titles such as MLB Slugfest, NHL Hitz (good game), Blitz another good game etc.Rampage series has a fanbase.

These are some other hot Midway titles other then the MK games, but I do know that obviously Midway is in Chicago and some in Cali so if you do stay in America you never know where you might wind up.

I'm not really that familar with other BIG time name american companies besides midway since most are japanese, british now days.A few american ones still around, Midway being one of them.

I am privileged because I was the first to know.wink

Again, congratulations dude!

Very few people actually get paid for what they love. You're one of them so go get Ed and when you create your franchise, make sure we get the beta first.grin

Raiden...whatever game you are working on let us know. I will totally play it. You are one of the if not THE most knowledgeable person when it comes to what makes a game work. As long as its not a platformer like Sonic or a golf game I will totally get it.

However, here is the pressure. You have been quite critical of MK in the past (for good reason) it may be tough to recieve such criticism....but none the less I am totally for any project you are apart of....just let us know the name when you are allowed to release it.

You probably can't answer many questions, if any at all... (i respect the clause) But can you give us an idea of what platform, language, or genre, etc you're working on? It's just exciting to hear man'

Best of luck

Cool, well not to be insitrant but, I was kinda wondering, if I could help out a little. I know most of the industry and would really like a good referal. And seeing that u r here and all and I probably wont get another chance like this. Show me what u know, tell me how to do some things, because I could use the guidence. Ive already got an idea, but I want to see it as a fact of sight. JUst show me a few things, all I know is the basics. How long, little bit of programming, etc. But Ive got the determination to do this and if u could help me, u would get credit.

It's one of those industries like Show biz that's incredibly hard to break into from what I understand.I also recently found out that Comics believe it or not is incredibly difficult to break into.

Usually, in most cases you'll get in with "connections" someone has to see your talent, then they pass you on before you know some big name or company will see you and be interested.

It also depends on the type of business, in show business you don't need any degrees just talent and lots of it however a programmer or something technical you definitely need something.

But hey we are all good at something, it's just a matter of determination, luck and talent we possess.

Sure. The job is with a public university in my area. They have a grant from the U.S. Department of Education to develop educational videogames for 8th and 9th grade students. The game can be best described as a 3D First-Person Graphic Adventure in a Massive Multiplayer environment.

It is being developed for a Ultra Mobile Personal Computer (UMPC) which is a fully functional Windows Tablet XP system (it looks like a PSP on steroids, i.e. 2-3 times bigger). It can be played with the buttons and the D-Pad or, optionally, a keyboard can be attached if the gamer chooses to. The game is programmed in C++ with DirectX. We have about 5 programmers and two artists on the team (I am one of the programmers). The artists use 3D Studio Max and Adobe Photoshop to produce the media for the game. Not sure yet how they do the music and sounds.

Since the game is educational there will be no sex and violence in it, but that's ok, it's good working experience. The closest thing it has to fighting is a machete that you can use to hack plants and trees and such. Once I gain enough experience in the industry I will be able to move to one of the big name companies.

Well, if you want to break into the industry you really need to have two things:

1. College degree, preferably in Computer Science. Another good choice would be one of the schools that offer degrees in different aspects of videogame development.

2. Working demo, i.e. a completed game that you developed.

I started out by reading a book called "Beginning .NET Game Programming in C#". It teaches you how to program games step by step in a very easy to understand way. Another thing you can do is go to videogame development related websites and read any and all articles you can find, go to the message boards, read all the topics, etc. Here are some very good sites to start you off with:

1. http://sloperama.com/advice.html - this is the best site out there for aspiring game developers. Make sure and read all the articles in the way they are ordered.

2. http://www.gamedev.net/

3. http://www.igda.org/

Also you can check out my portfolio if you like to give you a general idea of what sort of knowledge you need to have and how to present it to potential employers:

http://louvassilev.awardspace.com/index.html

You can download the source code of a couple of my games and install and play them if you like.

If you have some specific questions, let me know and I'll try to answer them.

I'm not sure what dragon points are given out for but if the advice above is not one of them, then I don't know.

Dragon points are rare now days I've noticed but it's really not important unless you care about your rank on here.

the good thing is that skulls are also rare...it seems that the mods are just backing off...which is cool.

Yeah, skulls and DP IMO should be given in really rare and appropriate situations which MKO has done for the most part IMO.

On this forum, there's bound to be lots of disagreements.
