hm i never noticed that, though you're right li mei and tanya are quite similar, they do some how... have the same facial features and they do make the same hand movement during they're fireballs, though they're kicks are differen,t tanya's corkscrew kick and forward flip dont seem similar to li mei's clock kick or fr... ok they share almost the same flip... thoguh nitara's unidcorn kick is almost like tanya's front split...

I've even wonder if that black head-band-pirate-like girl could not be Tanya instead of LiMei as everyone think.
But at the same time, I think they said that it way LiMei...

I guess you have a point about the projectile, and the fact that their other specials are comprised mainly of special kicks, but I think what it comes down to is, they're both uninspired filler/eye candy characters. With Tanya, they just did a color swap on Kitana's costume and skin, and pulled some unoriginal moves out of their ass for her. With Li Mei, they had a more original costume; but I think if they had made her costume pink but not given her sais, or if they had given her the sais, but another color costume, the fans would have let her slide as just "uninspired filler" rather than "Mileena rip-off." It's easier to associate her with Mileena than with Tanya probably because the similarities are more obvious, and Mileena is a more classic, popular character than Tanya.

So they release their projectile in almost the same way. Didn't the ninjas all do that?

Their specials are far from being identical! They are not rip offs of each other or of anyone else!
